GERMAN sailor Stefan Ramin was on the trip of a lifetime when it turned into a nightmare on an island in the middle of nowhere.
He set off on 2008 with his girlfriend and traversed the globe looking for paradise - but it took a horrible twist when he reached Nuku Hiva in French Polynesia.
The remote tropical island was the last place Mr Ramin was seen before remains, believed to be his, were uncovered.
Experts believe he was "hacked to pieces and burned" and eaten by suspected cannibals.
Testing will conclude whether the ashes belong to Mr Ramin, Radio New Zealand International reported.
Police are looking for Henri Haiti, a local guide who set off on a hunting trip with Mr Ramin and then tried to sexually assault Mr Ramin's girlfriend when he returned to alert her of an apparent accident.
He tied her to a tree but she managed to escape and alert local authorities.
Haiti is still missing and is the subject of now seven-day manhunt from police and soldiers.
Ramin and his girlfriend had planned to spend several months in French Polynesia, docking at Nuku Hiva to experience a traditional goat hunt on the island of 2,789 people.
"The foreign ministry and the federal police are aware of the case and in contact with local authorities," said a spokesperson from the German foreign ministry.
Tastes like seagull
Seems pretty obvious the guide did it, why bring “South Sea Island Cannibals” into it, geesh! I don’t even think there are any cannibals of the south seas. The cannibals were in New Guinea, not Nuku Hiva. Next thing they’re going to be saying Hawaiians live in grass shacks and eat people too. Maybe way back when somewhere in the “South Seas” but not now. Sounds like a bad Bob Hope and Bing Crosby movie.

A second-rate sailor, but a first-rate second course.

Well, that’s new.
Particularly nice weather we’ve been having in Northern Michigan, lately.
Seriously, I don’t understand people who think cruising off the coast of Somalia, or Borneo, is going to be some romantic holiday, full of carefree, no-risk, get-away from the real world.
Unfortunately for them, this is the real world.
Well, we do have bumper stickers and tee shirts that say "Haole, the other White Meat", showing some haole suspeded from a pole over the fire. I gather it gives some tourists pause.......I have to laugh........
How about "homophagist"?
That's it. Please do not judge those who practice "homophagia".
“How about “homophagist”?”
I’ve heard the term “anthropophagi” used, but never in polite society.
All cultures are equal including cannibalism.
We should immediately allow many of these cannibals to immigrate to the U.S. to improve our diversity.
Thoughtless Christians imposed their values on such societies and as a result cannibalistic cultures are now endangered.
It’s a hunger orientation and they were born that way.
The other other white meat?
I always find German food to be a bit heavy.
