Don’t be VAT stupid (Cain was AGAINST a National Sales Tax last November)
Herman Cain T.H.E New Voice, Inc. ^ | November 21, 2010 | Herman Cain

Posted on 10/16/2011 5:42:57 PM PDT by Polybius

There’s one message from the 2010 elections that many so-called policy makers, political elites and analysts did not hear. Namely, the American people are not as uninformed and stupid as they think we are.

President Obama’s Debt Commission and the Bipartisan Policy Center’s Debt Reduction Task Force have both floated its ideas for reducing our nation’s runaway national debt. .....

The worst idea is a proposed national sales tax, which is a disguised VAT (value added tax) on top of everything we already pay in federal taxes.

Here are three of the biggest reasons the national retail sales tax is the worst idea on the table.

First, we have a spending problem in Washington, D.C. not a revenue problem. ......

Even worse is reason number two: In every country that has established a VAT with the promise of reducing their national debt, the VAT has eventually gone up or expanded on top of the existing tax structure. ....

For the liberal naysayers who say that would not happen, you lose! Just look at the Social Security system, Medicare and Medicaid. Over the years since their inception, taxes have gone up, benefits have gone down and they are still on a path of insolvency.

Giving the administration and Congress another tool to tax us and confuse us is like giving an alcoholic a key to the liquor store with no supervision, only to discover that he locks the door after he is safely inside.

A national retail sales tax on top of all the confusing and unfair taxes we have today is insane! It gives the out-of-control bureaucrats and politicians in denial one more tool to lie, deceive, manipulate and destroy this country.

People are not stupid. Maybe they will hear us in 2012.

It’s a retail tax with no tax on business materials so it can’t be a VAT.

A sales tax is not a VAT. Nice try!

“We FReepers have vetted Romney for years and more recently we vetted Rick Perry. Now its time to vet Herman Cain. Its necessary. Especially since he has no elective governing or legislative record whatsoever. Like Rush and Hannity, Cain has been a professional talk show host in recent years. That is not the resume of a GOP presidential candidate.”

I’m all for commonsense vetting. I’m against circular firing squads by which FReepers destroy every candidate on the horizon.

You’re going to end up with Romney. You deserve him.

Who’s your guy? Who has survived your vetting so far??????

so there’s no one who meets your standards? Good luck with Obama’s second term.

I can live with Cain. He’s the only non-career politician in the whole bunch. How many times have we insisted that career politicians are the problem. The minute one becomes a serious contender though (how rarely that happens), we join the career politicians in shooting him down. They are laughing their a$$es off at us.

I can live with a number of the others. I just want to defeat Obama. And we ain’t gonna get there by the circular firing squad method.

Let’s keep this up. Fragment, split into a dozen conservativce factions, wait for Mr. Right on a White Horse to come charging in

while Romney sews it all in the next six weeks.

Where will all your hotshot expert vetting be then?

You are concerned about a national sales tax as the camel’s nose in the tent.

I’m scared to death of the endless sniping and fragmenting that conservatives do constantly.

There are no other liberals in the pool right now. Romney has it all to himself. Unless conservatives coalesce around someone,
Romney
is
our
nominee.

So, which of the others is your choice for us to unite around? Which one? Or do you only do demolition, not construction?

>> 2.) No Cain attacks are directed at Romney.

That right there is plenty suspicious.

That applies to any and every Pubbie's plan so it's not a valid argument.

And a Duroc is not a Poland China.

But they're both pigs.

The GOP hasn't had a major candidate who was a non-politician run for potus since Pat Buchanan. How'd that work out? There hasn't been a major non-politician run on a 3rd party ticket for potus since Ross Perot. How'd that work out?

Americans haven't elected a non-politician potus since Dwight David Eisenhower. All Ike did was be General of the Army, Supreme Allied Commander in WWII, Military Chief of Staff, NATO commander, Military Governor and President of Columbia University.

I see no good reason why any conservative would so easily jump on the campaign bandwagon of someone with NO elective governing or legislative record. I surely have no idea what Cain would do as a congressman, or mayor, or governor, let alone potus. Conservatives I know are discerning in their analysis and skeptical in their support especially for anyone with NO public record whatsoever.

What is even more suspicious is the fact that Cain endorsed Romney over Conservatives in 2008 and on 9/22/11, Cain said that Romney would be his choice for VP.

What kind of “conservative” endorses Mitt Romney? When other Republicans endorse Romney they are called rinos or worse. Why is Cain allowed to get a pass on his endorsement of Romney?

That’s just plain false.

And plenty suspicious of you to affirm it.

And which of the career politicians will be our savior this time around, in your view?

This is an unusual juncture in American politics. The Tea Party is all about ending the dominance of career politicians. Normally, I’d agree that non-career politicians don’t stand a chance.

And it might be true this time to. What I do know is that another career politician will doom us with finality. I’m willing to take a chance on Cain, even if my first choice might be one of the others.

Go ahead, snipe and demolish. You’ll get Career Politician Romney as your reward. And then you’ll blame exactly whom?

>>>>>>>I’m against circular firing squads by which FReepers destroy every candidate on the horizon.

Rick Perry has been at the center of that circular firing squad and getting trashed for two months now with gratuitous and outrageous attacks on his conservative record as Governor of Texas and on his personal life. His poor debate performances are a different story and not off base.

So don't whine me a story of how bad Cain is being treated around FR. Cain is getting the same pass that so many FReepers gave to Sarah Palin for the last 3 years. At least Palin had a governing record. Cain has no public record in elected office. Period.

Why is Cain allowed to get a pass on his endorsement of Romney?

Probably for the same reason that Perry gets a pass for endorsing Guiliani. Duncan Hunter was out in mid January. Fred Thompson entered late and was out in January too. Cain's endorsement came in February. There wasn't exactly a stellar field left by that point in time.

We all need to spend some time learning how our government and economy work so we can support an intelligent return to our constitutional principles. We all agree that the government needs to shrink significantly in size, budget, and control. This is our country, founded on conservative principles that we support. With over 100 years of progressive policies we are now fighting for conservatism from the outside, instead of the inside. We have lost our home field advantage. It's time to change the battlefield instead of continuing to play on the socialists home turf.

What we have right now is:

*a progressive income tax touted by Marx
*an unconstitutional FICA tax of 15% for most people
*tens of thousands of pages of crony tax codes
*corporate taxes that raise the price on everything we buy and drive businesses overseas
*capital gains taxes that keep people from investing in the United States
*millions of people with representation despite no (visable) taxation who will soon outnumber us

What we need is a complete restructuring to a tax code that is fair, simple and low.

What we do not need is more politicians willing to nibble around the edges of the giant cancer that is Washington bureaucracy. And a good place to start is with the system that feeds the beast.

I don't care who you support for President. But as conservatives we should all be able to agree on these bedrock principles and then urge, convince or threaten our elected officials and candidates into supporting them.

/rant. You may now return to your regularly scheduled cannibalism. Willand and Barry approve.

Short of endorsing BO, there is no greater display of bad judgement than Cain’s endorsement of Romney and don’t be surprised if Cain endorses Romney again in 2012.

It is not hard to see why Cain endorsed Romney in 2008.

Romney owns the Largest Radio Network in the USA, Clear Channel Radio Network, and Romney is in a position to get Cain a lucrative Talk Radio Contract even if Romney does not win the Nomination.

Maybe you can refute it with facts of your own, instead of slandering the poster and making such an asinine demand.

(Or maybe you’re not capable of that.)
