Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said Saturday that part of his immigration policy would be to build an electrified fence on the countrys border with Mexico that could kill people trying to enter the country illegally...
Mr. Cain added that he also would consider using military troops with real guns and real bullets on the border to stop illegal immigration.
The remarks were among the most pointed yet by Mr. Cain about illegal immigration, and they come as he is enjoying a surge in national political polls on the back of his victory in a recent Florida straw poll..
It is not the first time that Mr. Cain has floated the idea of an electrified fence. He has told the story many times of a caller to his former radio show who chastised him for talking about building a border fence, saying that such an idea was impractical.
Its going to be 20 feet high. Its going to have barbed wire on the top. Its going to be electrified. And theres going to be a sign on the other side saying, It will kill you Warning. At an earlier rally, on the campus of Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, Tenn., he added that the sign would be written in English and in Spanish.
This nation has always been a nation with wide open doors, Mr. Cain said at the second rally. We want to make it easy for people to come through the front door. And were going to shut off the back door so you dont have to sneak into America.

Hehehehe. Now that’s a gotcha if I ever heard one.
“If he really said this then his rise is over. It is silly and nonsensical to behave in this manner. If it isn’t satire then Cain won’t even be VP.... “
That’s right. What we need is land mines and snipers...
Not sure we really need to spend that much money on a fence. Just put a simple fence up.
Whats needed is to stop them from working when they get here. They’ll self deport. Send the employers who hired them at the same time.
Question the motives of anyone who tells you that border fences don't work. They probably have an agenda that they are hiding.
Rick chesks with his mega donors (builders, poultry producers, people like that) and does what they want.
They get cheap illegal alien labor. Illegals get a lot of goodies including in-state tuition. The Perry family gets all sorts of free stuff (luxury vacations, Rose Bowl trips, etc.) and taxpaying Americans get the shaft.
I want to see the actual text, not some leftist blogger’s memory at the NYT.
Yeah, we’re clear. Neither me or Cain have a chance to be elected President. If he said that, he’s a nut- a real, honest to goodnes lunatic.
I do facility security for a living..for 170 or so large facility clients...I can tell you it does work for those that have them around the perimeter.
Beatable for those prepared in advance, and high maintenance at times, but the Civil War buffs here on FR will tell you what a simple picket fence strategically placed in the middle of a field can do to put a monkey wrench in the plans of advancing enemy invaders.
Go for it!
Not sure I get this?
Was it something he said on his radio show?
Anyone familiar with the source?
Credible or not?
This guy is getting traction.
“...he added that the sign would be written in English and in Spanish. “
What an IDIOT!!! Anyone knows it can’t work. It’s got to be in English, Spanish AND Arabic.
Cain has no business running for president (LOL).
That’s where the armed troops come in play...
I mean federal laws and international laws.
Stop being a disingenuous snot.
You aren’t paying for anything Rick Perry has done.
You are paying for what Ted Kennedy and the federal Gov have done.
Why not?
If Hadrian was able to build an effective fortification 1900 years ago without modern construction equipment, Herman Cain should be able to do it in 2013.
Why? Because he believes in the rule of law? Any elected official who condones illegal immigration should be put in jail. This selective law enforcement has got to stop.
I’ve suggested more than once that they ought to use copters from Fort Hood, fly low, slow and shoot anybody that dares to cross over. I’m not a violent person but desperate times = desperate measures.
Herman, Herman, he’s my man if he Cain’t do it, nobody can.
Really no need for the smart a** remark. My point is that for all the talk of a fence, I do not hear proposals as to how to logistically and physically construct such with a near 1300 mile border that includes the river and a great deal of tough rural terrain and lots of private ranches. Your suggestion of boat docks is duly noted. You could have kept your comment to that.
Satisfied?
You had to ask.
