Cain Proposes Electrified Border Fence
Pravda- NY Times Division ^ | 10/15/11 | Wyatt

Posted on 10/15/2011 4:18:53 PM PDT by VinL

Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said Saturday that part of his immigration policy would be to build an electrified fence on the country’s border with Mexico that could kill people trying to enter the country illegally...

Mr. Cain added that he also would consider using military troops “with real guns and real bullets” on the border to stop illegal immigration.

The remarks were among the most pointed yet by Mr. Cain about illegal immigration, and they come as he is enjoying a surge in national political polls on the back of his victory in a recent Florida straw poll..

It is not the first time that Mr. Cain has floated the idea of an electrified fence. He has told the story many times of a caller to his former radio show who chastised him for talking about building a border fence, saying that such an idea was impractical.

“It’s going to be 20 feet high. It’s going to have barbed wire on the top. It’s going to be electrified. And there’s going to be a sign on the other side saying, ‘It will kill you — Warning.’” At an earlier rally, on the campus of Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, Tenn., he added that the sign would be written “in English and in Spanish.”

“This nation has always been a nation with wide open doors,” Mr. Cain said at the second rally. “We want to make it easy for people to come through the front door. And we’re going to shut off the back door so you don’t have to sneak into America.”

“It’s about hatred for Mexicans.”

Right, we’re heartless bigots. We understood it when your candidate said it too.

It’s no where near MLK’s speech. Perry is a politician. He still said it. With or without the qualifiers it’s still advocates open borders. And who decides when all that other criteria has been met? Remember, he said until “SUBSTANTIAL PROGRESS” has been made. What does that mean? Drug dealers only get through half the time or a quarter of the time. When we’ve “almost” got the disease issue solved?

Most of our Military Bases utilize electric fences, so it's nothing new and evidently an accepted means of keeping folks out!

The fences give you a mild shock. Most of them give the shock at the chain link fence level and then have 3 stacks of razor wire on top. If someone attempts to climb the fence an alarm is sounded at a central command, the climber gets automatically shocked.

It's a guess, but I think these may be the same systems used at Federal Penitentiaries.

Effective and economical!

I prefer claymores, but mines would also help out. Claymores have a broader kill range. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/M18_Claymore_mine

I am not about to explain the complexities of Posse Comitatus.

Perhaps Mr Cain can give us a simple phrase on the subject that we can all understand?

Actually, I don’t beleive a wall will work unless there are boots on the ground to defend it. And if there are boots on the ground in remote areas...why build a fence? Perhaps you are not familiar with the southern border and the terrain in the area..

No sarcasm. :)

“Rick Perry was against Jan Brewers law as it “was not right for Texas”
That is why he pushed and passed SB9 which implemented safeguards to stop rogue local sanctuary cities type aholes from PREVENTING officers asking for immigration status.”

I’m sorry...but if he DID NOT pass get it passed. It means one of two things:

1) Those mean Republicans who comprise TWO THIRDS of the state legislature just wouldn’t give him what ‘he wanted’.

2) ...or he never really wanted it anyway.

Obviously I’m convinced that #2 is right, or he would have called another special session...but if #1 is right, then how is he going to get a 55% Republican majority (at the very best) to lift a finger for him should he be president?

Bottom line - we don’t have a Sanctuary City law, we have dead cops because of that, and we have a governor who is either incapable of passing the law, or unwilling to seriously push for it.

Sounds like my man for president. (LOL)

You can have a militarized Tex-Mex border. That is what Gov Perry wants. Boots on the ground. More BP agents and the TNG is neccesary. An electrified fence? That is crazy.

>>>>>And you didn’t answer the question.

I've been answering a lot of questions today. What question are you referring to?

The context of this thread is what prompted that remark. Glad to see your not a total idiot.

Ahhh, it's all about context with you. Check.

Try reading the post you're responding to.
I did and your post was juvenile BS!

And your responses have been the epitome of class, style and grace. Check.

I didn't attack you at all.
You go from dumb to dumber. LOL

For a poster who's been here since '99, one would think you would have learned that thing about "not engaging in personal attacks".

Pay a bounty to round-up the rascals .... Make the buggers walk back to Central America and Mexico.... Pretty soon the incentive will disappear. Oh yes, make the employers pay a price for hiring the rascals.

Johns don't like their photos on the evening news with the hookers....same with the employers.

The River, to the degree it is navigable, belongs to the United States of America and not to Texas.

It's in the Constitution.

Silly idea. Our southern neighbors would simply figure out how to steal power from the wires, or steal the wires for scrap.

A minefield on the other hand... with concertina razor wire obstacles on both sides might do the trick.

“Are you familiar with the tunnel under the Berlin wall?

The tricky part was hiding the dirt that came out as they tunneled under the wall. “

Can’t say that I’m familiar, but you have a good point. Also, with the investment needed for a tunnel that humans can use, they’re not going to waste their money and risk being caught for human smuggling, when drugs bring them 1000X the money for the same effort.

1.) A FENCE IN THE TEXAS DESERT AREAS WOULD CUT OFF RANCHER'S CATTLE FROM THEIR RIO GRANDE WATER SOURCE.

2.) A FENCE IN THE TEXAS DESERT AREAS WOULD BE A MASSIVE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT LAND GRAB THAT WOULD STEAL THE ENTIRE RIO GRANDE RIVERFRONT FROM RIVERFRONT PROPERTY OWNERS AND GIVE IT TO MEXICO

=========================

We are building it on the MEXICAN SIDE. We also know how pumps and pipes work. Those cows can learn to drink from troughs like normal cows in this country. You seem to want to imagine Texas is like India or something.

Oh, now I understand.

Herman Cain wants to:

1.) Invade Mexico which, legally, is an act of war.

2.) Annex foreign soil by force which, legally, is an act of war.

3.) Defend a Fence, built by force, against the will of the Mexican government, on Mexican soil, from Mexican artillery, firing on Mexican soil.

4.) Turn every country on the Planet against the U.S., except maybe for Israel who will abstain in the U.N. vote of condemnation.

Yep. That's as "Red Meat" as you can possibly get. Not even Lady Gaga's "Meat Dress" can top that in the "Red Meat Department".

I'm sure that Herman Cain will just win a LANDSLIDE victory over Obama on a platform of invading Mexico and starting a Mexican American War. < /sarc>

"WAR WITH MEXICO! VOTE CAIN!"

Let's get back to reality, shall we?

This is reality for the Israelis because the strategy proposed by Perry and actually implemented by the Israelis WORKS.

Here is another bit of reality.

Herman Cain is doing nothing to prepare to win the Primaries and everything possible to attack Perry and hand the nomination to Mitt Romney.

Besides, Perry, guess which candidate has been taking fund-raising seriously to have the ammunition required for the "Ad Wars" that will rip a catchy debate sound bite to shreds.

Guess which candidate is not building up a campaign war chest because he is spending October hawking his book instead of paying attention to the logistics of a serious campaign.

Herman Cain Only Has 'Several Hundred Thousand Dollars' In The Bank .... Compare that to Romney's $14 million or Perry's $18 million

Michael Steele to Herman Cain: Get Off the Book Tour

Guess which candidate has been focusing all of his attacks on Perry while treating Romney with kid gloves.

Herman Cain said Wednesday that he would be unable to support Rick Perry for president if the Texas governor were to eventually win the party's nomination. .... The former businessman said, for instance, that he could support former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney....

Guess which candidate endorsed Mitt Romney in 2008.
