Two days ago President Obama authorized the deployment to Uganda of approximately 100 combat-equipped U.S. forces to help regional forces remove from the battlefield meaning capture or kill Lords Resistance Army leader Joseph Kony and senior leaders of the LRA.
The forces will ultimately go to Uganda, South Sudan, the Central African Republic, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with the permission of those countries.
The president made this announcement in a letter to House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, Friday afternoon, saying that deploying these U.S. Armed Forces furthers U.S. national security interests and foreign policy and will be a significant contribution toward counter-LRA efforts in central Africa.

Who even cares which group is which? I cannot articulate one single thing in C.A.R., Congo, or Uganda, for which a single American life should be lost.
Disgusting.
Hmmmm - - - ? Ah, but what if “boots” are needed in Kenya?
No US troops to fight a Mexican narcoInvasion, but plenty to ensnare in a Ugandan backwater. Niiiiice...!
NEVER watch network TV again. Kill your TV set, long live the new media.
The Lord’s Resistance Army is a maniacal apocalyptic cult led by a self-proclaimed Protestant preacher; however, it is like Mormonism, also a Protestant by-product, in that it is a syncretist cult led by a self-proclaimed prophet and simply has a few Christian and OT references in its crazy soup. It is violent and vicious and should be stopped.
But the reason it is called “Resistance” was that its founder saw himself as resisting the Muslims, and the fighting has been mostly between these two groups (although I believe the LRA has also attacked some Christian missions).
However, there are numerous things that should be stopped in Africa and I don’t see why this one is suddenly important enough to merit unilateral intervention by the US. There are no US interests there, except of course for Obama’s personal interests. And now that he regards the US military as existing to carry out his whims, I guess that’s sufficient.
Next will be deployments to save endangered sea turtles.
Uganda, Congo, and CAR,, why do i care which gang is in charge? And why should even **a single** American kid lose his life there?
The LRA are the bad guys. They take children and force them to become soldiers.
The LRA is a terrorist group.
Sam Chliders aka Machine Gun Preacher recused many children from them.
Kony is a bad dude.

So was the initial contingent in Vietnam, too. Interesting all this slipped under the radar.
Obama spent $27Million of our tax dollars to help Kenya rewrite its national constitution. No surprise then that the eligibility requirement for the Kenyan presidency was altered so BHO2 is now eligible. He has his bolt hole all ready and waiting!”
Do you think Michelle will go?
They may call themselves Christian but their actions speak otherwise. Whether they call themselves Christian or Muslim, Africans still engage in tribalism and ethnic cleansing. We don’t need to be involved in this conflict.
And just watch, this is the tip of the iceberg. There is a hidden agenda. Because to “support” the troops, we will rebuild the Entebbe airport to USAF standards. Build roads, hospitals, schools, pour in every concievable type of supplies, food, fuel, technology.
100 troops will be supported by the largest cash transfer in recent history.
NO BLOOD FOR (what’s in Uganda anyway?)!!!
Update: A Defense Department official tells ABCs Luis Martinez at the Pentagon that the U.S. troops will be in Africa for a few months in an advisory role.
Hmmm.....I seem to remember another was in the 60’s that started out with us sending some ‘advisors’ over to help the local military.
No way, the President of the United States (Executive Branch) is the only branch of Government that represents the collective will of the American People. Congress only represents the collective will of the states that sent them. That power must remain with the President who will answer directly to the American People, not to the People of individual states.
Thanks for finding that. Rush needs to do a little home work before making comment on his program.
Still we have no National Security Interest in Uganda.
I hope the troops going in realize they’re going up against folks who will make Al Qaeda look like Miss June from Romper Room.
“The LRA are the bad guys. They take children and force them to become soldiers.”
And how is that of even the slightest American interest?
