Rick Perry's campaign is pointing to Mitt Romney's defense of the Wall St. bailouts as the latest sign that he's President Obama's Republican twin.
"This is just one more example about how Mitt Romney has more in common with Obama and the Democrats than with the Republicans," the Texas governor's spokeswoman Catherine Frazier told the Daily News.
Romney defended parts of the bank bailout program during the Republican presidential debate on Tuesday, arguing it was necessary to "keep the entire currency of the country worth something."
The former Massachusetts governor added, "We could have had a complete meltdown of our entire financial system, wiping out all the savings of the American people, so action had to be taken. Was it perfect? No."
The $700 billion TARP package that bailed out struggling banks passed - with Obama's support - in 2008 when George W. Bush was president. Since he took office, Obama has greenlighted bailouts of his own, like the controversial one to help the struggling auto industry
Yeah, well. Perry’s kinda Romney lite.
Kinda? LOL! The two are twins separated at their political birth.
That’s odious. If you hate Hispanics so much that you think calling Perry by the Spanish version of his name is an insult, maybe you should go of to some Aryan Brotherhood nativist site and stop giving us all a bad rep here at FR.
American ain't Rome, Rick. But we heartless plebeians will be merciful. Let Jaime Ricardo "Slick Rick" Perry go back to his small farm and quit interfering with the conservative conquest of the Republican Party, and all will be forgiven. He can spend his years in retirement reading about Global Warming, and talking to the President of Mexico.
Was it something Mitt said?
I don’t “hate Hispanics,” so you can quit echoing the rhetoric of the Left. Hispanics vote 3:1 for Demonrats. California is already gone, and TX is about 1-1.5 decades behind. Do you want America to be another Third World hellhole? Do you want a permanent socialist majority? Do you want law-abiding taxpayers to subsidize criminals? That’s the real issue.
You know that zero really wants romney because zero knows that conservative activism and voting will be depressed. zero knows that no principled conservative could defend romneycare. romneycare is minnie-me obamcare.
The romney campaign will need to send out a hell of a lot of anti-nausea medicine for conservatives to show up and vote for romney. That will be the job for the ‘rino activists’
Obama knows that a Romney candidacy will bring on a third party candidate.
You should see the Democrats on the WSJ site and at my local paper, pushing Romney. That’s why I keep saying that I’m going to start a web site for,
RINOS AND DEMOCRATS FOR ROMNEY!, because there are some Democrats who are very serious about voting for Romney. Many Democrats are disillusioned with Obama, and they see Romney as a very viable alternative. They also think that if Obama is going to lose, they may as well pick the most liberal Republican in the group.
“Obama knows that a Romney candidacy will bring on a third party candidate.”
That’s a very distinct possibility. Conservatives don’t like romney and the Libitarians hate him even more. romney is the perfect candidate for a Leftist operation ‘chaos’
Like I just said to someone else, if we can take both houses of Congress, we might be better off under Obama, than under Mitt Romney because the legislators will continue to oppose Obama, but not so much Romney.
How dare you make fun of a Hispanic name as though it’s not an American name or a slur? It’s obvious that you are not a patriot, Sir, or you would realize how many of us in this Nation trace our heritage to Jaime’s, Sean’s, Guiseppe’s, Sven, and Maria’s.
What Rick Perry did was a “yell leader,” the equivalent of party whip - for a military school.
And then, he flew C130’s all over the world. He never saw combat, but the man entered the Air Force as a pilot in 1972. He had every reason to expect to be sent to Viet Nam.
I know he’s not stupid. I’ve heard him talk intelligently about cloning and embryonic stem cells and the difference between destructive embryonic research and adult and umbilical cord cell research.
I sincerely doubt that he is venal or a hack at anything he has done, either.
