Alternate headline: Republicans really, really, really dont want to nominate Mitt Romney.
Strong Tea Party support has Cain in the drivers seat nationally, just as he has been on our last four individual state polls. With non-Tea Party Republicans Romney actually leads Cain 29-27. But with the Tea Party crowd Cain is getting 39% with Gingrich at 16%, Perry at 14%, and Romney in 4th place at 13%. Romney doesnt need to win the Tea Partiers to be the Republican nominee. But he does need to finish better than 4th with them.
There are indications within the poll that Cains stay at the top could be short lived. Only 30% of his supporters are solidly committed to him with 70% saying they might still go on to support someone else. Those numbers arent much better for Romney, who only has 31% of his supporters solidly committed, or Gingrich, who only has 34% solidly committed. The strongest base of support among the Republican front runners- even if its shrinking- is Perrys- 48% of his remaining backers say theyll definitely vote for him. Overall 70% of Republicans are either undecided right now or open to voting for someone different than who theyre with now- that signals an extremely wide open race
If the race came down to a two way match between Cain and Romney, Cain leads 48-36. Cain would pick up Bachmann, Gingrich, Perry, and Santorums supporters. Romney would get Huntsman and Pauls. Cain would absolutely crush Perry in a head to head, 55-27.

Maybe not but highlighting the fact that the existing tax policy in the USA is the PROBLEM... and offerring something that limits government and possibly solves the problem of the unfunded liability programs for the future is worth debating and fixing.....
What other plan out there is this bold?
Or should be just stick with the same old tax and spend tax tax tax tax tax tax.... If you had any clue as to how much out of each dollar that you actually get taxed out of you may start to realize that it is way past time for REAL CHANGE...
Good for you. Its satisfying to move from observer of these 2012 events (many of us here are “armchair types”, self included), into the realm of the arena of actual volunteer politics. This is what grassroots, this is what Tea Party, this is what Herman Cain Train (Express) is all about. Congratulations to you and your effort, stepping up to the challenge.
“What a dumb ass graphic.”
Lighten up, Dude! It’ll be several more months before things get serious in earnest........
bean counter? We should count our blessings, an accountant with a personality! LOLOLOLOLOL...... and I only thought computers had personalities!
.
Try raising the tax WHEN EVERYONE PAYS!!!!
Very, very good point. In fact, it's Reaganesque.
First rate thinking there, Donna.
Love it!!
Bernie Goldberg gave some props to Cain on Bill O’Reillys show, but the BORing one immediately blew it off.
Go Gingrich Go!!
Okay.......
Go Cain Go. ;>)

Hey, Newt has been kicking some serious A$$ in these debates. While Cain is my first choice; Newt has been on fire!
He wants a FAIR tax, not a Flat tax, and his proposed path to that FAIR tax has issues.
Excellent point... In fact it would make a great bumber sticker...
I'd give anything to see the reactions of my black liberal family members, if they read this thread and saw folks with forum handles like, HiTech RedNeck, Typical_Whitey, and TEXOKIE expressing their strong support for Herman Cain!
You should see their faces when they realize Cain wants to raise the tax on their daily purchases by 9%
Cain is going to need a great Secretary of State like Newt...
Well said. We cannot afford to be fickle. Everything must be dedicated to stopping ROMNEY at this point. JOB NUMBER ONE FOR ALL CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICANS. We are taking on the GOP Establishment for one thing in this regard. No easy task. But I think we have the courage and momentum.
You should see their faces when they realize Cain wants to raise the tax on their daily purchases by 9%.
Perhaps the empowerment zones will fix that for some.
I bet it screws rural folks and retired folks.
Ah don’t want 9 on top of state sales tax.
The last 9 in 999 is 9% more on your Pizza.

I agree, that would be right up Newt’s alley. Being a history professor would serve him well in this position.
"Fair", "Flat", issues or not - at least Cain is injecting the idea of radically reforming our oppressive and corrupt tax system into the national debate.
Whatever form that transformation takes, it must occur, if we're to make substantial inroads into fixing the deepest rooted problems within our government.
