Texas Governor Rick Perry can expect his most conservative rivals to try to knock him out of the saddle Tuesday in a high-stakes presidential debate in the key state of New Hampshire.
The debate, hosted by Dartmouth College and broadcast live by Bloomberg Television, will be the first to focus solely on the economy as US unemployment remains at a stubbornly high 9.1 percent with 14 million Americans looking for work.
"The goal of conservatives in the debate is to take Perry out first, and go after Romney later," said Allan Louden, a presidential debate expert at Wake Forest University.

Can’t wait to pull the lever for Perry!!!
He just needs to say a prayer before the debate and he needs to know that we’ll be saying prayers for him. He’ll do just fine.
It has been apparent for a while this is the strategy but WHY? WHY are Cain, Bachmann and Paul all participating in this strategy? Why are they protecting Romney?
Don't you mean their goal is to try to take out Perry first and then to see who can be Romney's VP next?
I can't believe there are still going to be the losers at the debate...same ole' same ole' turds...Bachmann is out of money...
Perry raising 17.1 million 49 days...Cain raises 2.6 million in 92 days....good grief...
This is a Perry thread...we Perry supporters show respect for Cain threads and DO NOT post pictures of Perry on those threads. Please do not post your campaign pictures of Cain on this Perry thread. Thank You.
A circular firing squad.
However, they may be doing Perry and all of us a great favor. Perry has to improve his performance at these "gotcha" panels and he knows it. I believe he will improve and once he's over this hurdle he should get a good bounce. I don't need my POTUS to be "debater in chief" but he needs to be able to clearly articulate his position on issues and why.
All these folks are doing is preparing him for the even more intense battle he will face with the media and obama.
Right. The objective from the get go should have been to knock out Romney. So far Romney has gottten off scotfree. Perry has become the main focus because he has the strongest conservative record out of the entire field.
We’ll see on Tuesday night if Perry comes prepared and ready to defend his record. A good showing by the Texas Governor will help to keep his campaign running in the first tier.
It smells to me.
Texas under Perry has spent a fortune reinforcing and policing its border. Also, for you anti-immigration folks out there, Romney passed the "Massachusetts Dream Act" when he was governor of MA, and nobody ever complains about that (and he never mentions it).
So I honestly don't know why they are attacking Perry so viciously, except that I think a lot of the attacks are motivated by the Dems and a lot of the attackers are either knowingly or unwittingly being used by them to try to take down the one major non-RINO candidate.
Excellent! Let's encourage all FReepers of Faith to pray for the Lord's strength and guidance over Rick Perry before this next debate so the world will see the Rick Perry those of us who support him know that he can be. Then we can be sure it is not Rick Perry alone who is praying (although that is good too obviously.)
Hard to have an uphill battle when you are on a down hill slide.
“Perry has become the main focus because he has the strongest conservative record out of the entire field.”
That is simply nonsense.
Whiner!
I hope our Cain supporters see the implications of only being able to raise 2.6 million. I know we will get arguments about how the new media has changed everything, but candidates need to buy advertising. obama will deluge any state he has any kind of chance in with advt.
What we need from Perry is to show some improvement at the "gotcha" panels. He doesn't have to be the "king of the debates" just a little better then he's been.
