The Fast and Furious scandal, in which the Justice Department knowingly gave Mexican criminal gangs thousands of guns, just keeps escalating. The latest development centers around whether or not Attorney General Eric Holder lied to Congress about having knowledge of the controversial gun trafficking operation. Recently released documents say Holder was briefed about the operation long before he told the Judiciary Committee he was first aware of what was going on. (Holder now claims he misunderstood the question was being asked.)
What's more, CBS News investigative journalist Sharyl Attkisson -- who's been covering the scandal from the beginning -- says in an interview on the Laura Ingraham Show today that the White House and Justice Department have taken to screaming at her for reporting on the story. In between the yelling that I received from Justice Department yesterday, the spokeswoman--who would not put anything in writing, I was asking for her explanation so there would be clarity and no confusion later over what had been said, she wouldn't put anything in writing--so we talked on the phone and she said things such as the question Holder answered was different than the one he asked. But he phrased it, he said very explicitly, 'I probably heard about Fast and Furious for the first time over the last few weeks.'

Eric Schultz, Tracy Schmaler, Eric Holder... A DOJ of cowards. The buck stops with Barry, but he’s accomplished at finger-pointing, so I expect a wave of resignations within the month and Barry will continue to feign ignorance about everything.
They are up to their eyeballs in blood and gore in this ~ their reporters and reporter-ettes wrote all the preparatory propaganda and knew all about Fast and Furious.
Maybe it's one of them who threatened to kill people over at CBS.

is there a reasonably short synopsis of the whole F&F scandal?..Yes, Bush initiated Operation Gunrunner to find if guns were running to Mexico. In the year before Obama became HMFIC, they deduced there was NO Iron pipeline going to Mexico and were in the process of shutting it down. Obama and Holder said “If there isn’t one, we’ll make one and blame it on Bush to make us non complicit and use Bush’s program to take the second amendment down”. Simple, accurate and evidentiary.

I noticed that this “petition” exists on the White House website, and requires that I sign up in order to log on and sign the petition. I’m more than a little wary of this “petition”. If there is a petition that exists outside of the White House, let me know.

Can you elaborate a little on how the Post is involved?

Attkisson is getting close to a real story here and her higher ups know it and are obviously backing her. I say obviously because one can only imagine that the WH has been on the phone to CBS to tell them to cease and desist. The fact that Attkisson is carrying on is evidence enough that CBS bosses told the WH "no dice."
CBS and others smell Obama's and Holder's blood in the water. No wonder there have been screaming episodes by the Administration, they are scared and desperate...with good reason.
Actually I think that the real story is that the Obama administration has emails/meeting minute records that state they want to implement certain gun control regulations and that to gain public support so as to nullify the NRA and other gun advocate groups they needed to create a problem that their desired gun control would solve. The problem that they decided would work best was to stop the flow of guns from the USA to Mexico. So in their twisted logic they needed to first increase the flow of guns to Mexican drug gangs.
Now the only other option I can think of gets real scary. That is that the Obama Administration at the highest levels is being paid off or blackmailed by the Mexican drug money. They are doing that in Mexico and many Central American countries so it is not impossible. There were lots of allegations about Clinton being involved with gun & drug running out the Mina Arkansas airfield.
Either of those two stories would likely result in serious questions about whether Obama could serve out the rest of his term in office or should be impeached.
If CBS gathers what is likely the real story, Obama might just choose to announce early that he will not run for reelection and hope that will get CBS, Republicans and certain gun rights groups to back off.
This is going to get real interesting and I agree with you that CBS probably does know what it is doing in backing this investigation.
