In the recent Presidential debate, Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann said Americas voters did not need to settle for the moderate candidate. Amen to that.
And gun owners do NOT want candidates who talk out of both sides of their mouths.
As the Gun Owners of Americas Board of Directors looks at the Republican candidates running to unseat radical anti-gun President Obama, we see several who have strong pro-gun backgrounds. Ron Paul, Rick Perry, Michelle Bachman all have solid pro-gun records and deserve a hard look from pro-gunners.
At least one frontrunner candidate stands in contrast with a decidedly mixed record on the gun issue. While Mitt Romney likes to talk the pro-gun talk, he has not always walked the walk.
The Second Amendment protects the individual right of lawful citizens to keep and bear arms. I strongly support this essential freedom, Romney assures gun owners these days.
But this is the same Mitt Romney who, as governor, promised not to do anything to chip away at Massachusetts extremely restrictive gun laws.
We do have tough gun laws in Massachusetts; I support them, he said during a gubernatorial debate. I wont chip away at them; I believe they protect us and provide for our safety.
Even worse, Romney signed a law to permanently ban many semi-automatic firearms. These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense, Romney said in 2004. They are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people.
Romney also spoke in favor of the Brady laws five day waiting period on handguns. The Boston Globe quotes Romney saying, I dont think (the waiting period) will have a massive effect on crime but I think it will have a positive effect.
Mitt Romney doesnt seem to understand the meaning of SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED.
And that makes it all the more troubling that Romney refuses to answer GOAs simple candidate questionnaire. In our more than 36 years of experience, a candidate is usually hiding anti-gun views if he or she refuses to come clean in writing with specific commitments to the Second Amendment.
Today, Romney may be a favorite Republican Establishment candidate of the national press corps. But that is exactly what gun owners DONT need in a new President. We need someone who will stand by true constitutional principles and protect the Second Amendment.
well well well... finally someone is going after the Mormon Mafia!
Last pres election in NV we set up Ron Paul booths at a few gun shows and were always very well received there, maybe more than anyplace else I can remember, people picking up bumper stickers/signs, stopping to chat, giving us thumbs up etc...
I wonder if the NRA has come out with anything like this yet? or do they just automatically endorse the republican nominee and stay out of the primary?
FUMR!
When the Assault Weapons Ban was about to sunset, Massachusetts Attorney General Scott Harshbarger quickly put together legislation that mirrored that piece of crap law and had it pushed through before the ban expired.
So now, only in Massachusetts is it illegal to sell, buy or own any rifle with a collapsible stock, flash suppressor or a magazine over 10 rounds. Want a nice Ruger Mini-14 tactical? Forget it. You'll have to move to New Hampshire.
Romney, as governor, did NOTHING to get rid of this ridiculous law. If he were on the side of responsible gun owners, he could have done it with a pen stroke.
Not only that but before Romney you got an FID and it was around $25 and it lasted for life. Now it’s $100 ever 6 years.
That the Myth hasn’t been beaten severely about the head and shoulders on his extremely liberal positions is baffling. He’s one of the biggest frauds to ever run and he’s getting a clean pass.
Where does Cain stand on the 2nd Amendment? I really like his message, but I don’t know the answer to this question.
Perry is for gun rights, and I will be voting for him in the Primary. I voted for him in the past 4 elections and he has been a good conservative governor in TX. I am sure that Cain is a good and decent man.
You took the words right outa my mouth.
He's confused on the second amendment. In response to a question he stated something about gun laws being a state's responsibility. I like Cain also, but this is a dealbreaker.
Cain endorsed Mitt Romney in the 2008 primary.
“Americas voters did not need to settle for the moderate candidate.”
True! If conservatives aren’t gutsy now that we have an even worst president than Carter, when will they have spines?
