Palin On Why She Might Not Run
National Journal ^ | 11/28/2011 | National Journal Staff

Acknowledging that "decisions have to be made" quickly, Sarah Palin on Tuesday laid out a case for not running for president in 2012.

Appearing on Fox News' On the Record, a favorite venue, Palin appeared to be talking herself out of the race in an interview with host Greta Van Susteren.

"Is a campaign too shackling?" she mused. As the GOP's 2008 vice presidential nominee, Palin said she felt encumbered by "handlers." Running for office "prohibits the freedom one needs to really make a difference," said the self-described "rogue" politician.

Added Palin: "You don't need a title to make a difference."

Palin, who set off widespread speculation about her intentions with a series of high-profile bus tours this summer and campaign-like videos on her website, acknowledged that she can't wait much longer to make up her mind. "You have to get your ducks lined up in order to get your names on ballots," she said. Deadlines begin to fall for candidate filings in some states next month.

Dumb move. The minute she says no, it’s “Sarah WHO?”

Governor Palin - it's "to be or not to be" for you.

If you choose "not to be" you will fade into obscurity.

If you choose "to be" all the slings and arrows will be aimed directly at you and your family.

You will have to fight harder than you have ever fought before. But you have many allies, many friends. many supporters.

In the end, you will win. You will win.

No, you know now. She said she would let everyone know by the end of Sept. There is 2 more days. That’s it.

If this is the case, then get to making a difference. Don't snip at the candidates because that is not helpful. Back somebody declare you will not run and then tear into Obama.

Because she is on the fence her words pack so little punch because they are seen by most as simply trying to pave a way for her own run. It's probably hurt her electability by acting like an honest broker. If she is then be one, if she's not, declare.

I hate to say this, but “The National Enquirer” had an article last week saying that her marriage is on the rocks and was the reason she couldn't/wouldn't run. They were right about Edwards, even Rush. Could we be saying vote Sarah Heath in’16??

I’m a Palin supporter and have been pretty sure for some time that she was not going to run.

I’m also ashamed that several of my fellow Palin supporters have behaved so badly concerning the announced candidates.

Yep, one can create sooooo much more change from a lake house in Wasilla than from, oh, say, the White House in Washington.

Palin(™) has been dancing her own particular brand of the hokey-pokey and stringing so many along for so long that she is now faced with coming up with a believable reason for doing what was clear to so many more of us for so long....staying out.

If this is the line she's taking....well....it is pretty funny at least.

RE :”Is it ok to really like Palin, to thank God she is part of our political scene, to respect her decision on this - and yet to have some smug satisfaction towards her most over the top sycophantic worshippers who have been insisting she was playing this thing out perfectly — all at the same time?

They (those ones referenced) were saying this is all a brilliant unconventional strategy to wait and wait amd wait until that magic time, then jump in, but at the same time tried to say she hadnt decided and was still soul searching for a decision. That is trying to have your cake and eat it too.

Yeah...the genius from Wasilla is positioning herself for 2020....the fact that her short, self-aborted career in actual elected positions will be ten years in the past by then shouldn’t mean anything at all...after all...she’s Sarah(™).

There are NO guarantees of that. If the establishment decides to oppose, defeat is more likely. The wait is to see if the establishment will support in the general election.

“They bet the whole farm on ‘running’.”

That is not true; only the cult of personality people may have done that, and their numbers are insignificant.
