Republican Gay Rights Group Demands Apology from Santorum
CBS News ^ | September 23, 2011 | Lucy Madison

Posted on 09/23/2011 10:01:23 AM PDT by lbryce

Members of the conservative gay rights group GOProud are demanding an apology from Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum for what they call his disrespectful comments directed at a gay soldier in Thursday night's GOP presidential debate.

"Tonight, Rick Santorum disrespected our brave men and women in uniform, and he owes Stephen Hill, the gay soldier who asked him the question about Don't Ask, Don't Tell repeal, an immediate apology," said GOProud's Christopher Barron and Jimmy LaSalvia in a Thursday night press release.

During the Fox News/Google-sponsored debate, which took place in Orlando, Florida, a gay soldier deployed in Iraq asked the candidates if they would take measures to "circumvent" the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," if elected president.

Some audience members audibly booed the soldier -- a moment the GOP candidates on stage chose to ignore.

GOProud also noted that Santorum, who answered the question, declined to thank the soldier for his service, and called the repeal of DADT "social experimentation" - and "tragic."

"I would say any type of sexual activity has absolutely no place in the military," Santorum responded. "And the fact that they're making a point to include it as a provision within the military that we are going to recognize a group of people and give them a special privilege to -- and removing 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell,' I think tries to inject social policy into the military. And the military's job is to do one thing, and that is to defend our country."

Exactly correct, I would imagine that they are a large number of homosexuals that are fiscal conservatives and there fore tend to vote republican. Great, but groups that form there identity based on their immoral homosexual behavior are not conservatives and not republican either. They are infiltrators dedicated to the destruction of Western/Christian values.

It amazes me that so many in our society are bound and determined to bringing down our Western/Christian values. It is those values(W/C) that are keeping them alive and safe, they are in effect destroying the one thing that is protecting them. Fools.

Just a thought: Gay Rights is another “single issue” isn’t it? Social Security is also a “single issue”, as well health insurance, and the list goes on.

If we look at all the “issues” the Left is throwing in the pot then we can see a trend, a pattern. The more “single issues” beneficial to the Leftist cause the more they break up the voting public into “single issue” voting, thus the better chance of the Democrat winning.

It’s almost like entering a third party to the race for potus

I received an email this morning from a liberal progressive friend in Florida. He's was trying to look down his nose at me in relation to Rick Santorum's response to the gay soldier's question last night during the debate.

His subject line read: "You hang with a classy crowd"
Here was my immediate response to him.

"If that is truly how you're perceiving and assessing that moment, ( and I saw it live when it happened ) then I don't believe you'll ever "get it" and see BEYOND your somewhat superficial progressive view you openly display.

For some reason liberal progressives always seem to thjink that THEIR view is the more ELEVATED, the more PROGRESSIVE, the ONLY acceptable moral high-ground, and the BEST politically correct approach for EVERYONE.

My observations of Progressives always tell me the same thing:
Progressives = our ideas are SUPERIOR.

I've said the following before, but it sure does ring true in terms of the differences between conservatives and liberal progressives.

If a conservative is a non-smoker, he doesn't smoke. He allows others to make their own choice.
If a liberal progressive is a non-smoker, he wants smoking banned for everyone.

It's the misplaced belief that WE( "WE" meaning liberal progressives ), KNOW what's BEST for EVERYONE.

The point: Foisting HOW YOU THINK IT SHOULD BE onto EVERYONE ELSE isn't acceptable and very pretentious.

Progressives seem to do that without realizing the superficiality of their position and their thinking.

Agree, Santorum completely booted the question.

Obviously he doesn’t have the spine to say “Gays in the military is bad policy and should be repealed”. His answer tells you that he considers homosexuality to be just another type of “Sex” and thus he gave the safe, politically correct answer that all sex has no place. Pathetic.

Some have been "programmed" by society to think that "as long as it doesn't hurt me, personally, it's ok". And they don't see beyond that. The problem is that it DOES hurt society. They simply don't see immorality as a problem.

first they’re frigging Dems who were the log cabins, secondly say sorry for what.

That he thinks men poking another man where the crap comes out and doing unnatural things to each other while getting more diseases is not wrong.
OR
Women wearing strap ons because they went to pretend they’re a man in sex
OR
EVEN a man dressing as a woman thinking they are lesbians

No it is high time that the GOP get rid of these lunatics and mentally ill people once and for all.

To think years ago I had no problem with homosexuals as they said and told us all repeatedly that they wanted to keep their lives private and now they are asking for special laws, dancing in the street telling everyone what turns them on.
Then they wonder why more and more are getting pissed off with these idiots.

Why don’t you tell me what you think about it?

What are you talking about?

Upthread you said "this" is outrageous. I asked you (twice) what is outrageous?

Then I gave a few different suppositions and you then asked "Why don’t you tell me what you think about it?"?

Am I able to read your mind?

Anyway - this is what I think: The crowd was right to boo that gay soldier. Darkwolf and Retired Greyhound and others are WRONG to support his service in the military. Just plain wrong.

Gays should not serve. They should be screened out. They should be bood when they expose their perversions to the world.

I think they booed a homosexual who happens to be a soldier, not a soldier who happens to be a homosexual.

Rick Santorum had best be prepared for random glitter attacks.

Thats why the GOP needs to present their positions in the macro, from the top down and in the most common denominator, not the bottom up.

The right cannot compete without providing a context for their positions - if the issues are framed as 'the GOP wants to throw PFC Steve out of the military because of who he loves' we'll lose every time.

IMO Santorum's answer was as good as he could've given.

Why should a man who makes being gay more important than being a GI be thanked for his service?

Is he there to serve his country, or is he there to undermine his country’s ability to field a coherent fighting unit?

I have no gratitude for gay soldiers. I have enormous gratitude for soldiers. If, somehow, I have discovered they are somehow gay, then my view on it is that they are there to degrade the effectiveness of the military, not enhance it.

I feel the same way about women in the military in front line units as well. Everyone forgets about how hard it is to be an Army wife. It’s harder when you know your man is serving alongside other women in a place with not very much to do.

I used to marvel at the collection of process servers lined up at the pier when we would pull in from a six month deployment. Allowing women to serve in forward areas was a giant “F.U.” to the average military family.

Now, gays in the CIA? Can’t have enough of them. They make wonderful operatives, and they serve their country well in that capacity. Some very brave and resourceful heroes of the gay persuasion have given their lives for a country that has done pretty well by them. Better than most, if not all, others.
