Will Sarah Palin be the October surprise?
Christian Science Monitor ^ | 09/23/11 | Liz Marlantes

Posted on 09/23/2011 7:04:32 AM PDT by winoneforthegipper

It’s been a good few weeks for Sarah Palin.

Now, a new national poll shows her trailing President Obama in a head-to-head matchup by just 5 points, 44 to 49 - this, after she had trailed him by more than 20 points for most of the year. That’s better than current GOP frontrunner Rick Perry, who trails the president 41 to 50 in the same poll.

According to the survey, Palin’s recent jump in support has come mostly from independents, who have lately been abandoning the president in droves. Still, she remains a controversial figure: 72 percent of Republicans and independents in the same survey also said they don’t actually think Palin should run.

And that remains the question: will she or won’t she? Palin recently told Fox News that she thinks there’s “still time” for candidates to get into the race, and that she’s “still considering” it. She repeatedly said she believed it would be an “unconventional” election year.

I too like the October Surprise calculation. Though (imho) Sarah can now wait till November based upon the destruction Perry wrought upon himself in last night's debate. Mittens is a nonstarter when Sarah enters (imho).

She blew plugs away during her VP debate in 2008.

Ballot access deadlines start kicking in by Nov. 1. It's highly unlikely to see any entry after October 15 or so, because she'd have to have time to raise campaign money to pay filing fees, collect signatures, etc., to qualify for the ballots.

Do you think I would be against Sarah Palin running? I am not in the least, but facts can be an ugly thing. That fact is she can’t run and one day we’ll know why.

The 72% poll is a piece of garbage. She is the most articulate Conservative we have had for years.

Agreed. Mitt Romney is a phony and calling him a RINO is a compliment. Rick Perry is a 'compassionate conservative'. Been there, done that. Sarah Palin isn't perfect by any means but she has conservative convictions that I believe are unshakeable along with guts, integrity and charisma. The lady is both honest and smart, a winning combination for a presidential candidate. There is a good reason both the political left and the Republican establishment hate Palin's guts: if she runs, she'll change everything - and, I believe, for the better.

Pray for America

I do, often. I also pray for Sarah Palin.

Palin may have learned from McCain’s run.”

It seems like 2008 all over again, what with Perry last night and all (I didn’t watch, but I see the coverage this am).

That said, I think the McCain in this cycle is Romney, alas.

If the polls show a Perry collapse next week (a maybe, not a certainty, but certainly a possibility), Romney is going to be the beneficiary, just like McCain was.

Palin’s not running. She certainly isn’t going to announce in September, seeing as we are near the end. The deadlines start to kick in in October.

Could she announce in October? Yes, she could, but the problem is, there seems to be something in the GOP primary DNA that tilts the table to those who have run before.

Next week will tell us if Perry’s lead goes away.

The only thing I can think of that would preclude Palin from running at this point would be another pregnancy. The stress of campaigning would be too high-risk, especially with her age and the fact that she already has one Downs’ child.

Did not clintoon enter in November? Have the laws changed? You may answer (if desired) by saying do your own research, and will say (myself) the laws may have changed.

I've read and seen people attack Sarah for her illegal immigration stance also. Will trust someone who does not call me (a Conservative) heartless for not wanting to spend American Taxpayer money on those who broke our laws. Sarah has not called me heartless yet nor has Sarah called me a vigilante for expressing my opinion yet, as GW did, therefore am waiting to hear from Sarah. Yes ... also praying to not wait for forever.

I don't believe there is anything "secret" that is keeping her from running. I think she is/was torn between the prospect of being a movement leader, which she is now, and running for office. I personally believe she's made the decision that being a movement leader is her wisest course, at least for this election cycle.

I also think that's a wise decision. She needs some time and distance to separate herself from the public image she's gotten among some folks. Also, additional time on the sidelines may help her hone her political/communications skills so that she can have broader appeal without compromising principles.

After all, she's young for a national politician. Just because she doesn't run in 2012 doesn't mean she can't run sometime down the road. Or, she may choose to remain a movement leader, stay out of politics, and support the conservative effort that way.

There is no way Palin will win. ZERO chance. She is a package deal. It will not only be her words and behavior monitored, but her family’s as well. There is a current video of Bristol riding a bull and getting into a confrontation with a guy about her mother. The man was off the wall and extremely vile in his words, but Bristol went up to him which resulted in the situation escalating. You can betcha the media will be setting these things up to trap the Palin kids into saying things and having them taken out of context. It will be a constant defense campaign distracting from issues. People will say she can’t control her own house but she is going to control the White House? Remember after George W. Bush got elected and his daughter Jenna did something silly and the publicity it got, just imagine what they will do to Palin as a candiate.

Video of Palin/Biden VP 2008 debate. Seems to me Sarah did exceptionally well. From viewing this video, she would do very well in future Primary debates as well.

Have the laws changed?

The filing dates have, as states race to push their primaries and caucuses earlier and earlier.

When Reagan and Clinton both entered in November, the first contests weren't until March or so. Now, we're looking at late January. Or earlier.

because she'd have to have time to raise campaign money to pay filing fees, collect signatures, etc., to qualify for the ballots.

Not a problem. This unemployed individual has husbandly salted away his $100 so he can participate in the mother-of-all money bombs.

If Gov. Palin decides not to run, well the $100 bucks gets converted to alcohol and after the hangover the prepping starts in earnest.

It’s nice you were very kind in your comment. You took the words right out of my mouth. I’m from Massachusetts and I can tell you, Romney has about as much spine as a jelly fish. Any pressure from the opposition and he’ll attempt a compromise immediately. As far as Perry is concerned, if you look into his past, it’s shameful, and we’ve already had the experience of three presidents from Texas. Do we need any more punishment.
Here’s to Sarah. She will scare the stools out of the democrats.

She is the voice for many, however I think her thoughts go very deep...hold on a second I read a tweet from Rush’s brother today...not directly on Palin more on what Perry is not but it fits here...

here it is....

Reagan wasn’t perfect either, but he was so genuine & so reliably conservative, so likable; he was a statesman, abt a cause bigger than self

Palin understands this.
