Her first book, "Going Rogue", was a NY Times bestseller, to give you some indication of the support she enjoys among American voters.

It sold about 3 million copies, right? I'm sorry, but I don't see that as evidence that she would attract 60+ million votes. It certainly supports the idea that she's got a fervent, highly supportive base, but I don't think that's ever been questioned.

Don't tell me that she can't bring in the votes to beat Obama, when she's doing this well when she's not even a declared candidate.

I never said that she couldn't. I just said there isn't yet any consistent evidence that she will. Such evidence may be apparent later, but it's not there yet.

To allow millions upon millions of people across this country to sit and wonder about her intentions - only to bail out at the last minute, would prove her to be of the lowest moral character imaginable.

Wow. Well, I suppose I'll keep that in mind if she chooses not to run. but honestly, I don't agree with your assessment. She has said that she is undecided. If that is true, why would you consider that to be dishonest? Perhaps she is genuinely waiting to see how the other candidates perform before deciding whether to enter the fray. You might not agree with that, but I hardly think that makes her "of the lowest character imaginable". I mean, because I can imagine some pretty low character.

But hey, if that's your verdict on her if she chooses that course, that's your right.

People will say she can’t control her own house but she is going to control the White House?

I was wondering if maybe she might wait until after Gingrich reveals his new contract with America.

Oh, I see what you’re saying. I was thinking more along the lines that you were saying it would hurt her in some way. *doh*

Anyway, so if she ends up choosing not to run, then doesn't that make her someone other than who you thought she was?

The presumption behind this statement is that she is still deciding. My interpretation of the thinking of the poster you were responding to, and my thinking is: That she has already decided. As someone opined the other day, perhaps she decided just prior to leaving as AK governor, many many moons ago. Now, with the decision having been made, the question is just a matter of when to go public. She chose to wait till the last minute - for LOTS of great reasons, IMHO. And, also imho, that last minute HAS to be prior to 10/31. With less certainty, that last minute is probably prior to the S. Korea trip, and probably a whole week before, putting the last minute timeframe as next week. Pick your day: Monday thru Friday.

after her South Korea trip...

Politically, I don't think she'll do that. Timing is everything, and Perry is flaming out. To wait till the last 2 weeks of October gives Romney time to fill the void as those backing Perry run away. Going next week might be impeccable timing, as it could very well be the low point of Perry - just prior to any combination of Perry resurrection and Romney filling the void.

Hmmmm... I'm thinking this a bit more possible, although it risks before being the better timed entry. Sarah has just a 1-hour speech on the morning of the first day, the 11th. She could thus speak and run, be back on the 12th.

Forgive the delayed reply to your post; hadda go to work:

CD said: “Could she announce in October? Yes, she could, but the problem is, there seems to be something in the GOP primary DNA that tilts the table to those who have run before.”

ngat said: Huh? Did you forget about ‘08?”

CD said “Uh, no. I was using 08 as Exhibit “A”.

Did you forget about 2000?”

ngat was reading posts fast, not realizing that you were thinking somehow Romney’s disastrous ‘08 primary run would tilt the table toward him. You make a good point about the GOP having no problem nominating proven losers.

on a different note:

With Christy “reconsidering”, and Palin not saying anything...I think the context is shifting here. I have steadfastly said that Palin won’t say anything in September. I have about a week left to see if I am right or wrong on that point, but I stand by it.

That said...if Christy gets in, that would make it clear that it isn’t “too late”...and Palin might well jump in, also. I think these two improbable work hand in hand and are related.

And I think Christy would not announce reconsideration had Perry performed competently in the third debate.

“And I think Christy would not announce reconsideration had Perry performed competently in the third debate.”

If the Newsmax story reporting this is true, it would not surprise me if the “billionaires” referred to are certain kingmakers that prompted Perry to jump in by telling him they would back him if he can win the primary, and they did that primarily because they have no confidence Romney would beat the Demo nominee in the general election. So, now that Perry seemingly hurt himself in the debate, and may not be the alternative to Romney, maybe these same “billionaires” are turning to Christie? And, why Christie?

Perhaps so.

One counterpoint: the billionaire’s club, whoever that is, can’t just get together on a whim.

I think it might have been a different group that pushed Perry early, and some of those were socially conservative.

This group is probably the fiscally conservative but socially indifferent/liberal group. Perry’s social conservatism frightens them.

One thing the Perry billionaires and the Christy billionaires agree on, though: Romney is not a conservative and doesn’t contrast strongly enough to obama. They would be right, if that is their reasoning.

(me, personally, I am scared to death about not defeating obama....he has got to be defeated. I’d support Gerald Ford if I thought he was definitely the man to do the job, because obama has got to go. In an ideal world, I would like to replace him with the most conservative candidate, of course...but that is gravy. replacing obama is simply essential)

I think your thoughts on timing are well thought out.

What if both Palin and Christy announce on Tuesday? Wow, what a week.

I think in the longer term, that would actually be good for the GOP. Someone has to defeat obama, and that someone has got to be ready. Not ready NOW, so much, as ready Jan. 2.

Well, at this stage, I suppose you sort of have to admire Gingrich’s intellect, and his tenacity.

Gingrich is a genius. Except for when he’s a fool.

But...he is a genius. (And a fool).
