Will Sarah Palin be the October surprise?
Christian Science Monitor ^ | 09/23/11 | Liz Marlantes

It’s been a good few weeks for Sarah Palin.

Now, a new national poll shows her trailing President Obama in a head-to-head matchup by just 5 points, 44 to 49 - this, after she had trailed him by more than 20 points for most of the year. That’s better than current GOP frontrunner Rick Perry, who trails the president 41 to 50 in the same poll.

According to the survey, Palin’s recent jump in support has come mostly from independents, who have lately been abandoning the president in droves. Still, she remains a controversial figure: 72 percent of Republicans and independents in the same survey also said they don’t actually think Palin should run.

And that remains the question: will she or won’t she? Palin recently told Fox News that she thinks there’s “still time” for candidates to get into the race, and that she’s “still considering” it. She repeatedly said she believed it would be an “unconventional” election year.

Nice try.

The truth is:

A. Bristol defends her mom. Americans love that.
B. If it was anybody elses’s daughter, it wouldn’t make the news.

Just a little tad of reality into your STD world, if Americans really loved this stuff Sarah Palin would be in over the 50% mark in the polls. Second she is not just somebody’s daughter, just like Jenna Bush’s wasn’t. And I think it is pretty much a fact that the media will be much harder on Bristol. It will always be in the news, especially since she has her own reality show. Give yourself a pinch that should help wake you up.

“I’d rather take my chances with a Cain, Romney or Perry.”

Honestly, I don’t think any of those old guys could beat Obama.

I seen that video and Bristol handled that situation pretty well. Too bad there weren’t some men in that bar, who could have taken that man to the side, in order to have a few words.
I don’t know if Palin will run or not but your smear stinks. Your wishful thinking is getting you a little over excited.

Announcing will provide a BIG splash in the media... It will drive the news cycles for a good solid few days, and perhaps be up there for a week... until the next thing gets the drive-by attention. Anyways, I’d think she’d ride out, and help out, with that media attention - help boost it. Its a critical time, getting the attention of folks that were not paying much attention prior.

Frum made his judgment for Obama based on a pant crease. What an ass.

Honey I’m not smearing just giving you a preview of what the left will make out of the story. Instead of Bristol being the victim, which she was, it will now turn to this jerk being the victim. When his sexuality was brought into the argument it changed the topic. The only thing getting me excited is the thought of Obama being out of the White House.

I’m afraid Sarah will never be able to live up to the hype that has been built up over her.

Hype? The only one who's built up anything is Sarah Palin, and it's called a twenty year track record of stellar achievement in public service.

Pardon us if we just happen to be impressed with that.

We know what the left and their media mouthpieces will do. If there's anyone out there who can take the flak and still stand tall, it's Palin -- she's proven that she's stronger than they are.

So when is she announcing?

September?

Or are we now using the October deadline?

I think she is/was torn between the prospect of being a movement leader, which she is now, and running for office. I personally believe she's made the decision that being a movement leader is her wisest course, at least for this election cycle.

If that is indeed her decision, then why hasn't she told her support organizations to stand down? O4P has been busy putting together a ground team for her in all 50 states for nearly a year now. She broke bread with these people the night before her Indianola speech, and didn't make any attempt to curb their enthusiasm. Why?

Palin has known since the end of the 2008 race that millions of Americans want her to be their next president. She knew a year ago that she had to come to a decision about the 2012 race before things heated up, and before the first candidate filed to run. That is when she had to let America know that she didn't intend to run - but she didn't.

The logical conclusion of this, is that Sarah Palin would have informed the public a long time ago, if she wasn't going to run for office, and she would have been emphatic about it. She's not the sort of person who would let millions of people stew in nervous anticipation for months on end, waiting for her announcement, if she didn't firmly intend to run.

Palin has known since the end of the 2008 race that millions of Americans want her to be their next president.

"Millions" aren't nearly enough. The 2012 winner is probably going to need in the neighborhood of 60-70 million votes. I suspect she knows that.

That is when she had to let America know that she didn't intend to run - but she didn't.

"Had" to? Why? What compelled her to say she wasn't going to run before the first candidate filed?

She's not the sort of person who would let millions of people stew in nervous anticipation for months on end, waiting for her announcement, if she didn't firmly intend to run.

I'm not sure how closely acquainted you are with her personally, but unless your real name happens to be "Todd", I don't know how you can possibly know this.

Anyway, so if she ends up choosing not to run, then doesn't that make her someone other than who you thought she was?

So when is she announcing?

Only God, Todd, and Sarah Palin know the answer to that question.

But you already knew that.

"Millions" aren't nearly enough. The 2012 winner is probably going to need in the neighborhood of 60-70 million votes. I suspect she knows that.

Sarah Palin was the one person responsible for energizing the Republican base in 2008. She packed the house to the rafters wherever she went. And this was as she was being held back by McCain & Co.

Her first book, "Going Rogue", was a NY Times bestseller, to give you some indication of the support she enjoys among American voters.

Then, there's the poll out just this week, which indicates that her approval rating among Independents has jumped dramatically. She now ties Obama in a head to head match-up.

Don't tell me that she can't bring in the votes to beat Obama, when she's doing this well when she's not even a declared candidate.

What compelled her to say she wasn't going to run before the first candidate filed?

It's called morals and ethics. Ever heard of 'em? It's how people like Palin respond to questions of trust and expectations on the part of those who respect and admire them.

More than any other figure on the national stage, Palin has demonstrated that she is honest, sincere, and trustworthy. She is also an experienced politician, and knew full well that the time to bow out was a year ago, in order to let her supporters find someone they could back for president.

To allow millions upon millions of people across this country to sit and wonder about her intentions - only to bail out at the last minute, would prove her to be of the lowest moral character imaginable. Such behavior flies straight in the face of everything this woman has been, her entire life.
