Gallup: More Voters Considering Romney Than Obama, Perry
Gallup ^ | 09/22/2011

Posted on 09/22/2011 1:40:37 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

More registered voters say they would definitely vote for Mitt Romney or might consider doing so (62%) than say the same about his two main rivals in the 2012 presidential election, Democrat Barack Obama (54%) and Republican Rick Perry (53%).

Though Romney currently receives the highest level of consideration among voters, more say they would "definitely vote for" Obama (33%) than say this about either Romney (21%) or Perry (20%). That may reflect the virtual certainty that Obama will be the Democratic candidate for president, while Republicans' loyalties are divided between their two leading contenders.

That dynamic is apparent in the higher percentage of Democratic registered voters who say they definitely would vote for Obama (70%) than of Republican registered voters who would definitely vote for either of the main Republican contenders (41% for Perry and 44% for Romney). Once the Republican nominee is decided, the percentage of Republicans who say they would definitely vote for that candidate should increase significantly.

Romney's advantage in broader voter consideration over Perry and Obama results partly from his greater appeal to independent voters -- 70% say they would definitely vote for him or consider doing so, compared with 60% for Perry and 45% for Obama. Romney also receives greater consideration from Republican and Democratic voters than does Perry, and matches the 90% party loyalty Obama gets from his party's supporters.

Someone said that just before an election you can trust the polls, but the rest of the time they are mostly noise.

I still hope sarah enters the race, though.

That will come to an end after this evening. This is typical liberal baiting to get the GOP to nominate liberal RINO who Obotulism can beat. We ain’t buying it this time around libs.

After 4 years of running for potus, has Romney finally reached legitimacy and viability with the American people?

HELL NO!

That's correct. Once the GOP has a nominee, then the "definitely vote for" stat will rise dramatically.

This is what happens when the stage is filled with pansies at the debates. In all of them, no one bothered to slam and take on Romney and his awful record in MA. In some points, I wonder if the 2nd and 3rd tier are not just up there to give Mittens cover so that they can get some sort of Ambassadorship or Cabinet job instead of winning for themselves.

Well, having twice enjoyed being the recipient of the efforts of the MPA (Mormon Protective Association), I can only hope that the whole country will have the chance to see how Mormons treat non-mormons.

Anyone know the situation with open primaries? It seems to me that since Obozo is the obvious candidate for the Dems, then a lot of Dems will vote in the GOP primaries in any states which allow this.

Big media push for Romney recently. Feels like they are trying to first eliminate all but Perry from the equation, and then systematically take Perry apart bit by bit.

“might consider” is hardly a definitive category.

I “might consider” Bugs Bunny, but I actually doubt it.

I think the pay to play cabal that runs both parties put Perry up thinking they could sneak him in as it becomes clear that their current puppet , Obama , can’t win. Romney will do for these folks but they want someone with a real good record of pay to play politics. Perry is that guy.

Whatever, these fraking libtards are not picking our candidate this time *shakes head* We need a candidate that will embolden the base not keep them at home aka McCain. Independents won't swing the vote (compromise won't swing the vote). Stirring the sleeping giant (the conservative base) will swing the vote...PERIOD! Romney doesn't fit the bill....PERIOD!

So here's another lesson: be wary of cross-party alliances. Again and again, it is the lonely, cussed figures who stand outside the establishment orthodoxy who are vindicated over time.~Peter Oborne and Frances Weaver

Romney isn't it!

because most of them don't know that Romney is:

Pro abortion
Pro Tax hikes
Pro Government run healthcare
Pro Gay marriage
Pro Gun grabbing

and tons of other stuff, until he started running for president, at which point he flipped and flopped on each and every one of those issues.

But you haven't heard anything about it, because he got a free ride at all the debates before Perry, and everyone has been attacking Perry 24/7 exclusively since then.

“I wonder if the 2nd and 3rd tier....”

I had an impression that Bachmann, while not 2nd or 3rd tier, is aiming for the Romney VP spot if possible. It is even interesting where she stood, relative to Cain and Perry.

I’ll be curious where these people stand tonight, and I will be watching to see if they have the courage to look anyone they attack on that podium in the eye when they attack.

I do not nor will I respect someone who enjoys delivering a political jab when he’s not looking at you.

Believe it or not there is a considerable number of “anybody but Obama” liberals because, hey,as much as they hate America they still gotta LIVE here and if Zero ain't stopped EVERYONE is going to be wrestling roaches for repasts.
Romney is the most liberal RINO who has a chance of winning,so they go for him.
If Obama gets a primary challenger like say,Hillary, they will throw Mitt like a fresh booger and love mob PIAPS.

Cain and Ginerich are not part of the attack squad so far. Lets hope they coninue to be above the fray. Bachmnn and Santorum are real losers in going after Perry but not Romney. Who cares who Ron Paul or Huntsman goes after?
