The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows that 21% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Forty-two percent (42%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -21.
Overall, 46% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the president's job performance. Fifty-two percent (52%) at least somewhat disapprove.

Americans may be PO'd at Obama from time to time, but many still seem to have an emotional bond with him. That's the part that'll be hard to break through on Election Day.
Does anybody think that there are some disapproves who are strong disapproves but are afraid that strong disapprove sounds extreme or uncivil?
He’ll probably plateau around this level for a few days. His class warfare red meat will garner some support from the extreme left and bump up his “Strongly Approve” number. This will be temporary as they will soon discover he cannot deliver the goods. He’ll then tank to new lows.
Certainly. I think there may be an equal number of “Somewhat Approves” that say that only because they think they’ll be thought of as rayciss.

Obama can be charming, (although he seldom is charming). And he talks like “regular folks”: Ya know, thinkin’ and doin’ and just saying enough.
Obama’s words rarely match his actions, but for the vast majority of Americans, the words are what matter... until they are unemployed.
Many here have Obama buried. Not so fast my friends. Obama will be a formidable candidate. Pravda has already put everything in place for another “comeback kid” story. Americans love that.
I am encouraged. I was expecting the class warfare rhetoric to get him a bounce from the usual leeching suspects.
I totally agree with you. This is not going to be a cakewalk, no matter how bad things are economically etc.
We may yet see that bounce happen since this is a three day rolling average.

That 21% is walking down to the mail box as I type too see if that free gov’mint free money check is in the mail. Jest a few mo days till pay day. Stinking rich get it all. Mine is comen in the male shoortlie.
Err, it seems to be doing just that. The real numbers in this poll are now 46%A/52%D. Hussein has been trending up and is now about 3 or 4 points off his recent lows. Those approve/disapprove numbers are really about where they've been for the past year or two. No matter how crappy the economy gets, Obama is going to get at least 45% of the vote. The people who live in an echo chamber and believe 2012 is going to be a cakewalk are fools.
Can Obama really be charming? I remember when people used to talk about Clinton’s charm. I thought he was as charming as a sleazy, oily used car salesman, but at least I could see what other people were alluding to. If you didn’t viscerally recoil from the man, yes, Clinton could be ‘charming’.
I don’t see that w Obama. He is cold and humorless. Not only is he incapable of empathizing, but he cannot—unlike Clinton—fake it. I read somewhere that to vary the pitch of his monotone telepromptering he shifts into a weird, creepy half-whisper, half growl-type-voice. He can’t take even a hint of criticism, much less sincerely joke about it and do the age-old political self-effacing deflection.
I haven’t even heard his supporters call him charming in a while. (Maybe I’m just not listening to the right supporters?) When opportunities arise in which to show and use charm, he generally just looks awkward. For example, when he sits down for a beer summit, he sticks his pinky out like a stilted woman sipping tea, and spends all his time and energy *not* yielding a scintilla of ground/risking even a faint hint of someone inferring he might possibly have been even vaguely, remotely wrong about the slightest, smallest thing.

Exactly. I still maintain it's going to take a near-flawless campaign by the GOP nominee and a major scandal enveloping Obama to defeat him. Perhaps it'll be one of those currently simmering. But he's still the favorite for reelection, no matter what the polls say right now.
And I agree the "media" has already templated the "amazing comeback" story. Further, don't forget Hollywood has already set for 12 Oct. 2012 the release of the movie in which the "brave, gutsy and intrepid" Barack Obama kills Osama bin Laden. When you're the King and have the "media" and "entertainment" industries at your back, that puts in play all kinds of advantages not available to the challenger.
You are right. Clinton was “Bubba”, you could easily see him sitting around a poker table keeping everyone there laughing, or enjoying a Razorback game on a Saturday afternoon with the guys. He was that guy most guys don’t mind hanging out with, they just never wanted him to meet their sisters.
Obama is stiff and uncomfortable. He is uncomfortable in his own skin and he doesn’t make other people comfortable as a result.
