The New Most Dangerous Cities In America (Drum Roll... Here are your top 25)
Business Insider ^ | 09/19/2011 | Leah Goldman and Kevin Lincoln

Posted on 09/19/2011 2:36:04 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

For the fifth year in a row, crime is down in the United States, according to the FBI. The 2010 final statistics released today show a 6.0% drop in violent crimes from last year's report -- better than the 5.5% announced in the preliminary findings in May.

Violent crime is down 13.2% from 2006 and 13.4% from 2001.

But parts of the country are getting worse.

Flint, Michigan -- the most violent city in America -- saw a 10% increase in violent crime over last year, with 2,208 violent crimes per 100,000 people. Rust Belt neighbor Detroit was only slightly safer.

The cities on this list are ranked by violent crimes, including murder, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault, per 100,000 people.

Downtown does look better but the schools are a zoo and the cops are useless. Thanks anyway city life.
Williamsville NY is now home.

You know how it is. We keep the crime rate up in Michigan cities to keep the riff raff out of the state and we all live in the sticks.

>>I have a buddy who is a utility worker...he is not allowed to work anywhere in Hartford without a police escort.

Wow, that is pretty scary. Glad I don’t work in Hartford, and since the Whalers left, I find almost no reason to go there anymore.

BTW, don’t know if you saw this thread I posted the other day. Kid Rock does more economic good for Michigan by making a music video here than that over expensive pure Michigan campaign.

My bet is that all of these cities have had decades of Democrat leadership and a heavy union presence in their police departments.

Kansas City is ranked #19 in the article, but it looks like KC is working hard to improve their ranking, hoping to get to #1! Just the other night, there was an execution style triple homicide. Who said things couldn't get any worse than when (current chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus) Emmanuel Cleaver moved on from corrupt mayor to corrupt congress-critter.

It's the percentage of blacks in a city that is the main factor. Madison WI, for example, is run by dems but it's a very safe city. Same with San Jose CA.

You can find crime and demographic data for most US cities at http://city-data.com and http://epodunk.com

hehehe...! We’re entirely too close to Detroit now. 20 plus years ago we were just fine. As soon as the market comes back, we’ll be moving further SW!...much further!

Lansing made the list too. Actually Michigan has a lot of cities in the 50-100,000 population range that have rather serious problems with violent crime.

I am originally from Lansing and now the State had to downsize there is nothing left.

Oldsmobile is gone and now the government jobs. The few auto plants left do not have enough jobs. The same for much of the lower half of the Lower Peninsula.

If I move anywhere I’ll be moving north. Its pretty quiet in my little town about 70 miles west of Detroit.

Let’s see here:

Miami,FL

Worst city #23

Then on Best Cities #30

What did the authors do, survey 53 cities? Or is this a load of creative writing.

I’m probably in the minority, but that Pure Michigan ad campaign really rankles me. Why don’t he businesses and local Chamber of Commerce (as long as we have to have them) pay for these ads? Why is it the Michigan taxpayers have to pay for these ads? I’ve never understood that.

But we’re brutalizing the teacher’s union in Michigan. LOL

The house just voted to end payroll deductions for union dues and the “right to teach” law looks like a done deal too.

Too cold! Michigan is cold enough without moving up North! I’m originally from Western Michigan and I love it over there.

I did not see any of our Texas cities on the list. Wonder why?

Here in the Lone Star State, three little letters mean a lot.

...and that's a cue for one of the most inspirational video clips of all time.
