The Bureau of Land Management says a fossil found by employees on federal land represents the earliest record of living beavers in North America.
The pair of teeth was found on BLM land in northeast Oregon.
The Albany Democrat-Herald reports the teeth come from the Rattlesnake Formation and are 7 to 7.3 million years old.
The BLM says the earliest beavers were found in Germany 10 to 12 million years ago and the animals spread across Asia, eventually crossing the Bering Land Bridge to North America.
The previous earliest known records of living beavers in North America, from about 5 million years ago, were from Nebraska, California, and northern Oregon.
The fossils will be displayed at the Thomas Condon Paleontology Center at John Day Fossil Beds National Monument.

I hate when they use their teeth.
Wait, what were we talking about?

Do beavers have baby teeth that they shed? Maybe the unlucky beaver ended up as some bear’s lunch, and the bear spit out the teeth?

I’m still trying to figure out the physical workings behind the Bering Land Bridge.
During an Ice Age, sea levels would drop because of all the water locked up in the enormous ice layer. But wouldn’t the Bering Strait, since it is so far north, be right in the worst possible spot and therefore deeply buried under the ice? So much for that theory, unless we assume the ice cap made a detour around the green and inviting Bering Strait region. Umm ....
But between Ice Ages, the sea level would be much higher, so the Bering Land Bridge would be deeply under water. Strike two.
Anybody know how this thing was actually supposed to work?

Hmm. I guess we learned to pet them until they were happy, or maybe feed them until they were full.

I’m sure these can’t be real because it ignores evolution. the beaver can’s be evolved to such a high state that it stops evolving for 7 million years. What beaver wouldn’t benifit from being able to flap it’s fury wings and fly to a new pond. These teeth are just random shapes that happen to look like teeth but have nothing to do with beavers.

How many leaves would a beaver cleave, if a beaver could cleave leaves?
A beaver would cleave all leaves not leaved, if a beaver could cleave leaves.

Yes, there was NO Bering Land Bridge 5.1 million years ago ~ or even before that. Just didn't happen. Maybe there were some big ole trees that fell in the ocean on the Asian side and some beavers hitched a ride to the other side.
Remember, beavers can swim!
