Republican front-runners Mitt Romney, Rick Perry come from different worlds
Los Angeles Times ^ | September 18, 2011 | Philip Rucker

Posted on 09/18/2011 1:55:44 PM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

......One was born into a privileged family in a tony Michigan suburb; the other, onto a flat expanse of West Texas dirt with no indoor plumbing. One spent his youth tooling around his father’s car factory; the other, selling Bibles door-to-door so he could afford to buy a car. One excelled at Harvard University, simultaneously earning law and business degrees and swiftly climbing the corporate ladder; the other, his hope of becoming a veterinarian dashed when he flunked organic chemistry at Texas A&M University, joined the Air Force. [Perry graduated from A&M]

Where Mitt Romney is obedient and cautious, Rick Perry is bombastic and spontaneous. If they had attended the same high school, they probably would have hung out at opposite ends of the hallway. Their relationship today is said to be frosty, if there is one at all.

“In every single possible way, they come from different worlds,” said Republican strategist Alex Castellanos, who advised Romney in his 2008 race but is neutral this time. “You can see the playbook pretty clearly here: it’s populist against patrician; it’s rural Texas steel against unflappable Romney coolness; conservative versus center-right establishment; Texas strength versus Romney’s imperturbability; Perry’s simplicity versus Romney’s flexibility.”

.... Romney is campaigning as a steady, capable grown-up who can fix anything that needs fixing; Perry, as a passionate, principled leader who can channel the ire of a frustrated electorate.

The twin forces within the Republican Party are neatly manifested in the two candidates. Romney represents both the party’s upper-crust establishment and the state — Massachusetts — that for so long has been the GOP’s boogeyman. Perry represents the angry grassroots that are giving the party new energy and he personifies the state — Texas — that for a generation has been the GOP’s soul.........

The two RINOs are alike in many ways.

Both are fascists for RomneyCARE/PerryCARE.

Both support open borders (but claim otherwise).

At least the RINO Perry is eligible.

RINO Rick praising HillaryCare (1993):

RINO Rick praising la raza:

RINO Rick praising Pelosi:

Romney and Perry are very different, indeed.

And they would be very different in how they would run the country.

I think Perry is the one with common sense and “laser-focus” on solving the problems.

A RINO is a RINO, be they from Texas or the NE.

Of course you leave off the context.

Bush wanted TARP passed because there was a genuine belief that Wall Street would implode without it. The Dems didn’t want to pass it so it wouldn’t help Bush.

“First we’ll go back to October 1, 2008. That morning, Governor Perry released a letter, co-signed by Democratic Governor Joe Manchin, urging D.C. lawmakers “to leave partisanship at the door” and “pass an economic recovery package.”

The Perry-Manchin letter came three days after TARP failed to pass the House by a vote of 228-205. Moments after the vote, an exasperated House Minority Leader John Boehner spoke to reporters. He blamed the failed vote on Speaker Nancy Pelosi highly partisan speech, delivered just before the roll call. Boehner said the speech “poisoned [the Republican] conference” and “caused a number of members that we thought we could get, to go south.”

The Bush Administration and the media predicted financial ruin if the House Republicans and Democrats failed to work out their issues with the bill.

Three days later, The Senate scheduled a vote on TARP. That morning, riding to the bi-partisan rescue, came Perry and Manchin. “There is a time for partisanship and there is a time for getting things done,” lectured the two governors.

Media outlets, including the Associated Press, hailed the letter as a bi-partisan endorsement of TARP. The Fort Worth Star Telegram, in Perry’s back yard, even ran the headline, “Perry joins with Democrat to push for bailout.”

Perry has since denied he wanted the bailout to pass, but it’s not difficult to see why media and politicians alike saw the Perry-Manchin letter as pro-TARP. The governors stressed bi-partisanship just days after partisan fighting derailed the first vote in the House, the letter was sent on the day of the Senate vote, and most obvious was the fact that Congress was not meaningfully considering any other proposals.”

>>>>>conservative versus center-right establishment

BULL! Conservative Texan Perry versus liberal establisment Romney is more like it.

Over the last 23 years the GOP has given us Bush, Bush, Dole, Bush, Bush, McCain and now Romney as the establishment standard bearers. Not a conservative in the bunch.

I don't know any major candidate running for potus on the GOP side over the two decades who has a better executive conservative governing record then Perry. More importantly Perry isn't afraid to take on Obama and the Democrat leftwing. Choose Romney and Obama wins!

Romney would be a train-wreck and Perry would be a place holder at a time when we need action. Both will send us off the cliff slower than Obama but sure as hell anyway.

I don’t think you can go around calling anyone who has ever done anything you disagree with a Rino. I don’t believe either one of the guys is a Rino and remember, even Reagan was once a Democrat. People do change and evolve their views. I do think, however, that we’ve already had a simplistic president from Texas and the country is not ready for another.

All you have to do is read the date, the letter head and the contents of the letter to laugh about the “exposure” of this awful offense of the Agriculture Commissioner from Texas.

Poor Palin pups have nowhere else to go.

Speaking of dogs, there’s a real nice comment about Perry and dogs in the article.

Two sides of the same coin.

Pretty ironic coming from someone who calls himself "RKBA Democrat". Perry is a card carrying (and gun carrying) member of the NRA, with a great pro-gun record. Myth signed an "Assault Weapons" ban in MA, and supports reinstating the Federal version.

Treasury: 99% of TARP investments paid back

http://www.housingwire.com/2011/03/16/treasury-99-of-tarp-paid-back

TARP was passed to avert a potential catastrophy.

The Obama stimulus and other Obama spending is what created the huge debt.
