DEVELOPING: RENO, Nev. -- An airplane crashed Friday into a crowd attending an air race here, injuring dozens in what one event official described as a "mass-casualty situation."
A medical official later said more than 75 people had been injured, including 25 critically. There was no official word on deaths, though one report put the toll as high as 12 and the crash near the grandstands left a horrific scene of bodies and wreckage.

Indeed.Very sad.
Prayers going out for your wife’s friend’s family members. I pray they are safe.
If anyone cares for reasonably ACCURATE report, from the official press conference going on now?
3 Dead, including the pilot.
54 transported to hospital, 8 serious condition.
Pilot was 74, and a true expert.
Did NOT crash “Into the stands”!
Did crash a few (unspecified) yards in front of the box-seat stands, shrapnel from the crash caused death & injury.
I don’t know about everyone else, but sometimes I search and don’t find, and I search more than once. Then, I find a thread after I post a new one.
I’m not watching the press conference, but the article I linked to has some pretty good named sources. Some of the details are different from what you have posted though.
Who is giving the press conference?
Details from the article I linked:
[This article does say the it crashed by the box seat in front of the grandstand and that the pilot did everything possible to avert the plane away from the crowd...]
“Among the dead was pilot Jimmy Leeward, 80, of Ocala, Fla., who flew the P-51 Mustang named the “Galloping Ghost,” according to Mike Houghton, president and CEO of Reno Air Races.
Renown Medical Center spokeswoman Kathy Carter confirmed that two others died, but did not provide their identities.
Stephanie Kruse, a spokeswoman for the Regional Emergency Medical Service Authority, said 25 people were critically injured and another 25 people were seriously hurt in the crash. More than 25 more people were treated for minor injuries, she said.
Kruse said the critically injured were considered to have life-threatening injuries.”
AIRPLANE CRASH AT RENO RACE PILOT 74 YEARS OLD.
I don't appreciate the (premature) insinuation that the pilot's age had something to do with this accident.
Wow... Were you at the race itself? I’m glad you are O.K. The description of the scene is absolutely horrific.
Press conference is ongoing on all local news channels.
New information has all been released, getting repetitive now, devolving to media speculation, “Is this the last race”, etc.
No I wasn’t at the races when it happened (thanks for the good wishes) got there about 90 minutes after. I live close and was escorting some assistance to the scene.
Thanks... I’m all the way up in Wisconsin and girls are watching a DVD at the moment, but we usually don’t get a lot of live coverage.
The pilot’s name is so familiar to me, even though I am not “into” the aviation scene. I’m SURE I’ve read stories about him here at FR though. I AM interested in WWII and the like, so perhaps it was articles about him and his plane. Very tragic day... May he Rest in Peace.
As for the pilot’s age I’m sure the guy they quoted probably said something like “close to 80 years old” and in their rush to get a full story they just ran with that number...
I’m going to make an assumption that the number of deceased will likely increase over the next 24 hours - just due to the description of the scene itself. So sad...
this is an unimaginable tragedy. maybe leave the posting nitpiks for another time. Respectfully.
This will bring about many changes at future air shows..In the 1950’s Mercedes-Benz, which had dominated Formula One racing..dropped factory participation in the sport when one of their cars went into the crowd at, ( Ithink i was ) Le Mans...killing and injuring many spectators..
YouTube video of crash:

Plane is headed straight to ground at 0:21. Crash itself is obstructed but the debris comes in view just a second later.
Obviously don’t click on this if you’re sensitive.
'respectfully'
It's just different; it's decent if you know how to use it. Just pick one word (i.e. "crashes") and do a title search by date, and it works just fine. It doesn't work well with phrases though.
You ok 4?
Yes she is. I checked that out. Her heart is bruised but she and her crew are okay physically.
