I have lived in Amish country. Took me years to get the bread off my belly!

"The Amish really live according to the Bible".

Then whatever happened to "render unto Caesar the things that art Caesar's"?

Plus, if they want to live under their own religious laws and not our country's laws, why can't the Muzzies also live here under their own Sharia law?

There are a few reasons:

1. The Amish are nonviolent. One look at the news on any given day proves the Muslims are quite violent.

2. The Amish truly do keep to themselves, and only deal with the “English” for trade and commerce.

3. They do not take over cities, governments, neighborhoods, and culture. Amish “law” is not something that they expect should permeate our entire judicial system.

While I agree wholeheartedly with your points, they do not really answer my hypothetical question....from an emotional angle, yes....from a legal standpoint, no.

My interest and concern in this is that these Amish bearded ones are actually causing harm to their cause by calling the spotlight and unwanted attention to the fact they are breaking the law (no matter how minor) that other U.S. citizens have to follow.

Obviously, John Law in these mens' county seem to take the view they are breaking the law, no matter how benevolent and peaceful the Amish are. Thus, they got thrown in the clink.

Which situation led my intellectual curiosity to the Sharia law question I posed....well, you get my drift, I'm sure.

Around here, the married Amish men grow in moustaches and all, full bearded. The UNmarried Amish men shave off the upper lip.

We have a rather large Amish community here, its the married men with beards but no mustaches, the unmarried are clean shaven. Another odd custom is they hang their curtains to one side or the other in bedrooms to designate and unmarried male or female is there

I did not know that the Amish paid no taxes. Of course they should pay taxes!

Christians (which includes the Amish) live under Biblical law. Jews live under the Torah’s law. This has nothing to do with civil law. Everyone living on American soil is subject to civil law.

The problem is the Muslims want to be in complete charge and promote death to the infidel (he who is not Muslim). Thus if Islam overtakes our Constitution, they will install Sharia law! Islam is, and always has ben, the enemy of other than Islam! They are, no matter what George W. Bush and Rick Perry say, our enemy! (And Mormon walks close beside Islam!!)

Amish do pay taxes:

“Self-employed Amish do not pay Social Security tax. Those employed by non- Amish employers do pay Social Security tax. The Amish do pay real estate, state and federal income taxes, county taxes, sales tax, etc.

The Amish do not collect Social Security benefits, nor would they collect unemployment or welfare funds. Self sufficiency is the Amish community’s answer to government aid programs. Section 310 of the Medicare section of the Social Security act has a sub-section that permits individuals to apply for exemption from the self-employment tax if he is a member of a religious body that is conscientiously opposed to Social Security benefits but that makes reasonable provision of taking care of their own elderly or dependent members. The Amish have a long history of taking care of their own members. They do not have retirement communities or nursing homes; in most cases, each family takes care of their own, and the Amish community gives assistance as needed. “
