There are a few reasons:

1. The Amish are nonviolent. One look at the news on any given day proves the Muslims are quite violent.

2. The Amish truly do keep to themselves, and only deal with the “English” for trade and commerce.

3. They do not take over cities, governments, neighborhoods, and culture. Amish “law” is not something that they expect should permeate our entire judicial system.

While I agree wholeheartedly with your points, they do not really answer my hypothetical question....from an emotional angle, yes....from a legal standpoint, no.

My interest and concern in this is that these Amish bearded ones are actually causing harm to their cause by calling the spotlight and unwanted attention to the fact they are breaking the law (no matter how minor) that other U.S. citizens have to follow.

Obviously, John Law in these mens' county seem to take the view they are breaking the law, no matter how benevolent and peaceful the Amish are. Thus, they got thrown in the clink.

Which situation led my intellectual curiosity to the Sharia law question I posed....well, you get my drift, I'm sure.
