These 8 men were arrested for refusing to pay fines after not putting orange safety triangles on their buggies. Bad. Ass.
We should leave these good folks alone. That’s all they want.
Interesting, not one of them even close to 6’ tall.
Around here, the married Amish men grow in moustaches and all, full bearded. The UNmarried Amish men shave off the upper lip.
I didn’t read where these hobbits, er, ah Amish were from yet.
The UNmarried Amish men shave off the upper lip.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
How long’s it take to grow an upper lip back?
So his being Amish makes this story one to mock, sling filth at and make jokes about? There are people suffering with mental diseases in all religions and probably fewer in the Amish Communities than any other, probably appreciably more in non-religious communities!
How pitiful that there are such people to write such things on Free Republic! It reminds me of stupid boys who burn the barns of the Amish for fun!
This is the second thread on Free Republic today where I have found dismay at my fellow Freepers. I think that Godly, honest and caring people must be a rarity on Free Republic anymore!
And if this is what is going on on social forums, i am glad I have not joined any of them!
God bless gthe Amish people. God forgive “the English”!
Those dudes with flavor savers can make some damn good electric fireplaces though....
It’s pretty funny that some are ready to stand up for principles - until they have to go to jail.
I have more respect for these Men than the boys who turn and run at the first scary vote on the Hill.
Btw. Who locks up people for not paying a fine on a minor offense?? These guys must be trouble makers!

I have noticed that in my local Mennonite people. Smallish and pasty white. I have seen some big women though.
They make good neighbors. And they make some killer bread/food.
Her Right Honorable Self Crook - yes - that is her last name.
“District Judge Deborah Hawkins Crooks ordered the Western Kentucky men be jailed for three to 10 days, The (Louisville) Courier Journal reported.
The men, who belong to a particularly strict Amish sect in Graves County, said paying the fines violated their religious beliefs against wearing bright colors or trusting in man-made symbols for their safety.”
Some funny haired Dude once said (paraphrased of course):
“He who sacrifices freedom for security deserves neither.”
Okay, I LOL’ed at that!
Yes. Of all the religions I have studied, the Amish really live their according to the Bible. they mind their own business and just ask to be left alone to live their lives peacefully.. People who are rude or unkind to them just show their own ignorance. And they act in a most unchristian way!
The Amish in Wisconsin are tall to average. I’ve only seen one or two men at the 5’3” or short setting.
I’m not sure which is worse, mocking the Amish, or mocking Rick Perry, Ron Paul, and Sarah Palin. The horror of it all!
I had to LOL at this. Yes, bottom left is has the “crazy eyes”.
We really need to be praying for them.
Many Amish do not share the beliefs most Christians would hold necessary for salvific faith.
But that is not what caused me to think this. If the responses here are not what you would wish for them, think of them being locked up for a week. They will be targets for all the foolish, thuggish, sixth grade mentality inmates with them, and even in a county lock up, when you have that degree of difference from the norm, there is an extreme amount of bullying and violence aimed at you.
Such laws (even if one disagrees on this one, there are others) examples that the 1st Amendment does not assure complete freedom of religion. Nor do equal rights laws mandate that all types of lifestyles and practices be tolerated, let alone affirmed, including homosexual relations.
The Amish are not a monolithic group, but none really proactively evangelize which the early church did, and i would suspect the more strict are prone to the negative effects of a small gene pool.
I met an Amish carpenter from Middlefield, OH, a big Amish area, and he was about 6’2”.
