The global warming theory left him out in the cold.

Dr. Ivar Giaever, a former professor with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the 1973 winner of the Nobel Prize in physics, abruptly announced his resignation Tuesday, Sept. 13, from the premier physics society in disgust over its officially stated policy that "global warming is occurring."

trust me I’ve told many I’ve talked to that global warming is a scam.
Most ask questions but there has been a couple who nearly fainted because it went against their view.

Subject: I resign from APS

Dear Ms. Kirby

Thank you for your letter inquiring about my membership. I did not renew it because I can not live with the statement below:

Emissions of greenhouse gases from human activities are changing the atmosphere in ways that affect the Earth’s climate. Greenhouse gases include carbon dioxide as well as methane, nitrous oxide and other gases. They are emitted from fossil fuel combustion and a range of industrial and agricultural processes.
The evidence is incontrovertible: Global warming is occurring.
If no mitigating actions are taken, significant disruptions in the Earth’s physical and ecological systems, social systems, security and human health are likely to occur. We must reduce emissions of greenhouse gases beginning now.

In the APS it is ok to discuss whether the mass of the proton changes over time and how a multi-universe behaves, but the evidence of global warming is incontrovertible? The claim (how can you measure the average temperature of the whole earth for a whole year?) is that the temperature has changed from ~288.0 to ~288.8 degree Kelvin in about 150 years, which (if true) means to me is that the temperature has been amazingly stable, and both human health and happiness have definitely improved in this ‘warming’ period.

Best regards,

Ivar Giaever

Nobel Laureate 1973

PS. I included a copy to a few people in case they feel like using the information.

Lousy anti-science GOP-types — who are you going to trust: a Nobel prize-winning physicist who is an expert in tunneling phenomena in the behavior of semi-conducters, or a Nobel prize-winning activist who’s an expert in something or the other (ummh, maybe PowerPoint presnetations, or scraping through a non-majors course in an Ivy League school) . . .

I know Ivar and worked with him briefly many years ago when he was doing biology. He doesn’t sugar coat things as I found out during one of my presentations. He said he had an equation that proved what I was reporting was impossible. For a young scientist to hear that during a presentation is very unnerving. How do you argue physics with a Nobel Prize winner, especially since you are not a physicist? I argued as best I could but he wasn’t convinced. My work continued and several years later after another presentation where I had a ton of additional data, he came up to me and said “Now I believe it”. It was one of the high points of my career.

Dr. Ivar Giaever Memo to Rick Perry: Remember THIS GUY’S name! Memorize it. Spell it for the press.

And Dr. David Evans, S. Fred Singer, Freeman Dyson, John Theon, Harold Lewis...and many, many, many more....the list is long and distinguished.

"How many agree with him but are afraid to say so!!!"

Probably because he's tenured/near retirement/ and doesn't need any grant money.

There was a well respected (and retired) Colorado State Univ. climatologist that said the same thing a couple of years ago.

I’ve had the same experience with folks who actually have advanced degrees in the sciences: “but the consensus of the scientific communtiy is blah-blah-blah”; “but just about all scientists agree blah, blah, blah”.

So I always respond: “name five scintists who have this position”

Most can’t name two, and the folks they generally come up with are discredited charlatans like Michael Mann and Phil Jones.

The best part is when they ask me to name five who support *my* position (that human activity has only a small, probably insignificant affect of global temps).

Well, there’s Richard Linzen of MIT, a giant in the filed of climatology.

And Harrison Schmidt, a PhD geologist who walked on the moon.

And John Coleman, who founded the weather channel.

And Bjorn Lundberg, a heavy-hitter in Greenpeace, until he strayed off the reservation (although Lundberg has started to hedge some).

And Freeman Dyson, a Nobel luareate in Physics, and one of the great minds of contemporary science.

And Frederick Seitz, another big name in physics, formerly president of the Rockeleeler University.

And now I’ve got to add this guy to my list, if I can just remember his name!

Dr. Ivar Giaever is DEAD wrong!!!

I know for a fact that man made global warming is occurring.

The 24 year old trust fund, lefty who drives a SUV plastered with Stop Global Warming, Obama 2012 and No Blood for Oil bumper stickers with a major in Earth Science along with a minor in Womans Studies told me so!!!

Her quote: ‘How can people be so naive about overpopulation and driving gas guzzlers be so naive’??
