Democratic party leaders insisted the loss wasnt a harbinger of things to come. Its a very difficult district for Democrats, said Democratic National Committee chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, noting its Democratic margins there tend to be the second lowest of all the districts in New York City. House Speaker John Boehner (R., Ohio), dismissed that idea.
This is a very seriously Democrat district, Mr. Boehner said. This is not a district that Republicans have any right to believe we could win.

It's possible, although I wouldn't count on it.
The Weprin brothers are notoriously weak, inept candidates who keep getting elected because they're from Queens.
I don't know why the Dems thought that one of them could broaden his base to an interborough district.
My webmaster suggested that this might bode ill for some of the other career pols in Queens-like Alan hevesi's son-which I hope is true.

A Dem has held that office ever since the 19th Amendment passed. Now that you mentioned the 19th Amendment, it's useful to point out that the presence of women voting - especially now as the majority of all voters - has undoubtedly skewed politics and government policy to the left of where it would otherwise be. Though I don't favor repeal of the 19th Amendment, it has turned American politics and history in a different direction than it would otherwise have gone, very possibly for the worse.

noting its Democratic margins there tend to be the second lowest of all the districts in New York City...You have to parse the Dem doublespeak. Now in NYC the 2nd lowest margin might be 3:1 but that makes it difficult to manufacture votes.

One issue not discussed AFAIK, is the impending loss of 2 seats in NY, due to the 2010 census. Odds are good that if the dems are controlling the process, this district may be dropped. It's been discussed once it was clear that Weiner was toast. It's probably on one of the last Weiner threads. This district and the last special election that we lost upstate.
The rats don't ccontrol the process. The GOP controls the NY State Senate by 2 votes, 32 - 30. Rinos caved, and we got the queer marriage law.

The species known as females just can't help themselves. Due to genetic wiring they view most situations with their hearts in lieu of activating their brains. However, as we say in Texas, "Bless their Hearts"...

A district the RATs have held for 80 years is a "very difficult district" for Democrats to win? Sure, Debbie. About as difficult as it for Republicans to win in Provo, Utah.

Is Wasserman-Schmuck conceeding every even to D+5 district int he country as “difficult”? Does she mean taht every district won by less than 21% is difficult? Please, Lord make it so. We’ll have 350 Republicans in the House in 2013.
