TAMPA, Fla. -- Key moments in Monday night's GOP presidential debate:
---
Big moment:
To open the debate, Texas Gov. Rick Perry and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney immediately went after each other on Social Security - with Perry defending his inflammatory language and Romney accusing Perry of scaring seniors.
"It has been called a Ponzi scheme by many people long before me," Perry said. The Texas governor has also called the social safety net a "monstrous lie."

Based on this article, I guess Ron Paul didn’t say anything interesting .... hmmmmmmmmm?
God,what a disgrace he is.
These things ought to be like Survivor. After each debate, the weakest are vote off the stage. Some of the “no chance in Hell” class like Huntsman and Santorum would be gone after tonight soon to be followed by Bachmann, Cain and Paul.
you know some of the participants are losers when they don’t attack obama,
and they attack perry.
Bachmann delivered a series of body blows to Perry. It was astounding.
Is there anyplace I can download (not watch online) the debate?
I thought Newt won another debate tonight.
The MSM seems uninterested in quoting Perry accurately on this. The only part of the quote you ever see is the words "monstrous lie".
How about the quote in context?
It is a Ponzi scheme for these young people. The idea that theyre working and paying into Social Security today, that the current program is going to be there for them, is a lie, Perry said. It is a monstrous lie on this generation, and we cant do that to them. The "monstrous lie" is telling young people that SS will be there for them when they retire.
Wasn’t the Ponzi scheme a situation where people voluntarily gave their money to an “investor”? With SS, it is mandated that the government gets your money. So, really, SS is a mandatory Ponzi scheme.
Newt would destroy Obama in a debate.
I’m not sure. Usually there are clips on Youtube. CNN has some clips, too.

The Godfather. Either your signature or your brains will be on that contract.
Newt is nowhere near my choice, but he is my favorite in the debates along with Herman Cain. Newt is coming off like the senior statesmen and always brings the focus to the main issue. Obama.
Nothing else is more important than defeating him. Outside of Huntsman,Santorum and Paul, I think any of the remainder could carry the fight and save the Republic, with a solidly conservative Senate and House to seal the deal.
Not only is it a Ponzi scheme but you get to pay Federal tax when it’s disbursed!
RP is waffling on issues on which he used to be clear and right. Oddly enough, Perry is coming across as braver about standing on principle than RP. Because I am well acquainted with both, I find that astonishing. RP is throwing away his only real strength - his reputation as a straight-talker. That’s too bad because, although he has no chance at the nomination, there are many domestic issues that he could have used the debate forum to educate voters about.
Cain was sharp and had some good lines; Perry did as well as anyone, but he needs to lose thebrown suit (Is Naomi Wolff on his campaign payroll?); Bachmann on the whole was stronger and looked better; Huntsman is consolidating the Eddie Haskell base; Mittens is almost good - if you could trust him; Newt had a few great moments; Santorum...why is he there again?
I'm not so sure. Newt is definitely doing an outstanding job in these debates among fellow Repubs, positioning himself well to the right. But invariably he goes for the middle ground when the context has changed and he is among the liberal left. At least he has done this in the past - cuddling up to Pelosi, for instance (think of that horrible picture). You call it political posturing. I really like Newt, and even more so in these debates, but, I'm sorry, I just don't trust him,
Odd wasn’t it? I mean Romney is on the left, is a true RINO and yet she attacks Perry but kisses Romney before the debate. Pictures show her looking adoringly up into Romney’s face...simply disgusting.
True, but to be honest, most of the elected pols in the GOP should be able to do the same.
If you can find it, go back and watch when Alan Keyes debated Obama. It didn't matter either way, but Keyes wound up absolutely destroying him, on issue after issue......Obama is not a good debater, he only wound up where he is, by facing an even worse debater, Hillary, who couldn't debate her way out of a paper bag.
