OMG! Perry used the S-word!!
Washington Examiner ^ | September 11, 2011 | Mark Tapscott

Posted on 09/11/2011 5:50:36 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

Can you hear it?

The sound of President Obama’s political advisors licking their chops in anticipation of running against Rick Perry and reminding the rest of us a thousand different ways that the Texas governor knows his Texas history, that is.

As The Washington Examiner’s Haley Peterson reports in today’s print edition, Perry told a Tea Party audience in 2009 that “Texas is a unique place. When we came into the union in 1845, one of the issues was that we would be able to leave it if we decided to do that.”

Perry was simply pointing out what most Texans know from infancy, and are known to boast modestly about from time to time when talking to folks from foreign lands like New York and California.

But you would think the former Al Gore supporter from Austin had read Jonathan Swift’s modest proposal for ending the Irish potato famine and cried “Eureaka!” in admiring response.

Former White House press secretary Robert Gibbs – an Alabaman who undoubtedly knows Perry was just indulging a familiar Texas past time of boasting about the state’s uniqueness – offered this glimpse of what will surely be a standard Democratic attack theme.

“Rick Perry is the governor who two years ago who two years ago openly talked about whether Texas should leave the union,” Gibbs said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Here’s something else Gibbs also must certainly have known long before he uttered those words on the Jeffrey Immelt’s propaganda network: In the same statement in which Perry reminded everybody of one of the unique conditions of Texas’ entry into the federal union, he also said “we’ve got a great union. There is absolutely no reason to dissolve it.”

So Perry said the exact opposite of what Gibbs would like everybody in America to think he said. But, hey, what’s a little outright lie among friends (Gibbs and his liberal mainstream media buddies asking him questions)?

Here’s another story that is often heard when a Texan comes into friendly contact with one or more Yankees:

In the Spring of 1863, General Robert E. Lee was conducting a military review of his Army of Northern Virginia for the benefit of an English military observer, Col Arthur Fremantle.

When members of Hood’s Texas Brigade “marched” past the reviewing stand, Fremantle, who knew of the unit’s amazing effectiveness as shock troops, was puzzled by what he saw and exclaimed: “Why General Lee, these men hardly have shirts on their backs.”

To which Lee replied: “That’s okay, Colonel. The enemy never sees the backs of my Texans.”

Hearing such a story and being from the state after which the heroes of the tale were named, it’s simply too tempting not to remind visitors from up North that Texas is just about the most unique place in the whole universe.

Too bad some people just can’t tell the difference between pulling Yankee legs and plotting political strategy.

Nice post, but an historical nit: Freemantle did not reach Lee’s headquarters until June 22, 1863, two days after that year’s equinox and therefore, early summer.

Welcome to FR heavy Perry Derangement newby. I am sure the ronpaulnutz who hide behind Palin will appreciate the help.

Its quite clear you are stupid about anything Texas or anything Perry. Not to mention stupid about Chile or the Chilean SS.

Your fervent anti-Perry posts have a smelly Muttbot flavor, but then again it is so hard to differentiate between Massa2shits RINO and a liberal, you could be a troll from DNC.

Don’t know about “look in his eye”, Perry has been a damn good conservative Governor for Texas, has been reelected twice by very conservative Texas voters facing liberals, libertarian thruther and RINO. We will hate to give him up, but if he can do half as good for America it’ll be worth our sacrifice.

Oh, don't get me wrong. Perry seems like an all right fella. Someone to hope for doing the right thing. But I want to see more proof.

It might be just me, though. It's still too early.

(I lived in Texas and loved it. The people there are so freaking awesome and friendly.(I can't return, though. TOO many ex-GF's))

where Texas could secede. There is no path

That is incorrect and since you posted the Texas-v-White case (which wasn't about secession) then you should know that.

Perry needs to do a campaign commercial about this. He needs to have a plain spoken Texan saying “They lie to you. They lie to you all the time. They take what a man says completely out of context and make it seem like he said something else. They think we’re too dumb to know the difference. Well, at one time we may have been too busy to pay attention, but with the way our economy is now, believe me we’re paying attention now.” and then show the whole comments, on several things, pausing at what they say he said, and then completing the sentence. Finish it up with “We’re sick of being lied to.”

Presuming your boy Perry was smart enough to make sure the photo-id bill was IDENTICAL to Governor Mitch Daniels photo-id bill, it will pass CONSTITUTIONAL MUSTER, and that's all it's got to do.

In the meantime the arch criminal and traitor Eric "Fast and Furious" Holder has less than two years in office ~ and then it's prison time!

The “radical” views are emminating from paul camp. His wack-os holler loudly, just like at debates and online, puffing up pretending to be big and mainstream. There are maybe 6 or so heavy PDS posters, most Texans who think well of Perry are like Tea Party people, not apt to shout about it.

You will notice lots of Perry Derangengers claim Palin for safe cover, for if they were honest about being paulnutz everyone would dismiss them without a second thought.

Consider why Perry has been reelected twice. Do you think Texas is not a very conservative state?

Then most Texans, including the author of this article, are pretty dumb.

Spoken like an expert in "dumb". Go back to the DNC websites where your unique "talents" will be appreciated.

Same here basil. I also took 7th grade Texas history in the dark ages and we were told the same thing. Because Texas was a Republic when we joined the US that we were different and could opt out if we chose.

Thank you. Great article. So it will probably be a big STALL by Eric Holder and then some “aggrieved” parties in the state(s) will take it to the activist appellate court and then back and up again. Holder needs to get on with it....but I’m sure he is in no hurry (it will play better closer to the election).

It may very well have been an issue when negotiations were ongoing about admitting Texas to the Union. There were probably a lot of other issues that came up too, doesn't mean Texas got everything it wanted.

Found this site that might be of interest regarding Texas and some common misconceptions.

Because you say so? I guess I'm going to have to learn to live with your disapproval then.

We will just have to disagree about that, SoJo.

Well as John Adams said, "Facts are stubborn things."

One poster below pointed in the right direction ~ TEXAS, as well as every other state that'd decided to join the Confederacy found itself involved in RECONSTRUCTION which entailed "readmission" ~ and there were, of course, "conditions" ~ so whatever earlier deal they'd had with the Union, they were readmitted with a different deal.

Losing a war is always bad.

I didn’t say it was, I said you have to climb over it.

There is no path for ANY State to secede and Texas (if they ever had any rights to) lost them at the end of the CW.

Yes the Constitution does have a provision but the is NO path for it, it would take years maybe decades to establish one.

All my Ex’s live in Texas.

Keeping an open mind is a good thing. You won’t find many conservative (not speaking of libertarian paulnutz) Texans thinking badly of Perry, he has done right for us.

Perry is just pandering and bordering on treason.

You seem to want to perpetuate the idea that the racists are pushing.

Interesting.
