But Samuelson's neighbor, Fernando Perez, said he told the cops several times that Ozzy was roaming in the back.
When the security alarm system at the home went off, Samuelson called Perez to check it out while she made the 20-minute drive to her house, he said. Perez said he knew not to go into the backyard because of the dog and when officers arrived, he warned them.
"'Be careful. Its a big dog,' I told them. They told me to go back to my house," said Perez, who repeated the warning several more times. "Before I get to my driveway, I hear the two shots. They walked into the backyard with the guns in their hand. Then they ran from the backyard like they were scared or something."
Samuelson said she got Ozzy to protect the house and deter thieves. Police have not said what triggered the alarm.
"He was our protector," Samuelson said. "Hes a huge part of our family."

I meant never felt the need to report them.
Might be a cynophobe that thinks any reason for anybody to kill any dog is a good one.
Wow! Thanks man. Sometimes we do have to take people to task for views that are anti-freedom, and that's just not 'cyberstalking', that's just holding people accountable.
Like, for example, if I started posting all over Social Security threads saying how great it was, I would naturally expect posts from people who disagree with me on Social Security-related threads, saying "Defend this, commieboy".
If you check his history, he was a real not-nice guy, and that hurts the forum. You know.
BTW, I want to report that by taking Berlin_Freeper to task, and then by having a big showdown with him -- well, you will see, Berlin_Freeper isn't a rottenguy no mo', and he's actually becoming one of my favorite freepers. We disagree on cop issues but I bet we do so much more civilly. In fact -- I don't want to get maudlin -- but he and I are borderline becoming friends. :)
Dear Admin Moderator, I am utterly devestated at this line by Jonty30, and I will be prosecuting him for felony aggravated hurting-my-feelings in the second degree.
;^)
In time Laz, you may even find him hittable.
I'm inclined to agree with PARTS of what you wrote above. For example, I might make an exception for laws that encumber entities that are not civilians -- e.g., laws that limit how a policeman can order you to stand ready for a house search, might be a net-freedom-enhancer, would you not agree with that?
NO NO NO, just kidding!!!!!
(private li'l vomit-in-mouth session)
I stand by the statement that “ALL laws encumber us.” Because that is true, we need to be very careful with laws.
I can see a time how your above proposal could set the standard for house searches and make it EASIER. “They” will meet the technicality of this law but still do what they want.
We as conservatives have to get past this this idea of “there out to be a law” because they are used against us in the end.
What are the alternatives besides passing another law and feeling like we did something? (that is what libs do and never solve the problem)
We have to view laws as slavery, not freedom..................
This wasn't a "hot pursuit". The cops were called after the home security alarm went off. If the perp "ran through the yard", and managed to get past the dog, he was long gone by the time the cops got there.
There's hope for me yet...
*ahem*
The police will increasingly be seen as the enforcement arm of an illegitimate authority.
I only wonder how many of the "good cops" will recognize the fundamental change in the relationship between LE and "civilians" that has occurred and quit.
My job takes me to farms and suburban homes where I am “charged” 4-6 times a day by dogs.
Sure they bark at me... they’re dogs, ffs.
They either come close to sniff and greet me
or maintain a distance from me that they find comfortable.
NEVER have I felt the need to shoot them.
This behavior by police is cowardly BS.
You make interesting points. Let me chew my cud on that one for a while....
Knee jerk much?
The comment was mine, not Laz’.
FYI some of the most worthy and appropriate laws are those which protect the people from the government, for example the Constitution.
Police are agents of government. Do you not see the value of passing laws to restrict their powers?
What? It’s not like you need a gun to take out a bear, ferchrissake...
Uh, I mean, umm, he was banned? That's too bad...
They should have deputized the dog and ordered him to guard the back door, then made their way in the front door, chasing any burglars out the back.
I am serious.
While I’ve never met such officers, there seem to be a large number of them. It doesn’t inspire confidence.
BWAHAHAH...bootlicker and a whiner too...good riddence...
