But Samuelson's neighbor, Fernando Perez, said he told the cops several times that Ozzy was roaming in the back.
When the security alarm system at the home went off, Samuelson called Perez to check it out while she made the 20-minute drive to her house, he said. Perez said he knew not to go into the backyard because of the dog and when officers arrived, he warned them.
"'Be careful. Its a big dog,' I told them. They told me to go back to my house," said Perez, who repeated the warning several more times. "Before I get to my driveway, I hear the two shots. They walked into the backyard with the guns in their hand. Then they ran from the backyard like they were scared or something."
Samuelson said she got Ozzy to protect the house and deter thieves. Police have not said what triggered the alarm.
"He was our protector," Samuelson said. "Hes a huge part of our family."

Any dog I've ever known would be running to the fence and barking his head off.
and get the damn laws passed to rein them in.
Is there any difference between liberals and conservatives?
Yes. We tend to increase civilian freedom with our laws.
Cops are an extension of the prosecutorial powers of the state.
Their job is not to serve and protect, that is Orwellian.
Umm.. those dogs have a line of tanglefoot laced between them.
Just what are those two up to?
“WTF kind of world is this??”
A world where small minded people like Chet99 are given the power of life and death over your property [the dog] to assuage their small tortured egos.
A world where street thugs are given a horse drawn funeral procession [M. Duggard -London] as if they were some brave war hero.
A world where all manner of evil is not only ignored, but reveled in at all levels of society.
I know, you were asking a rhetorical question.
;-)
Perhaps, but your yard isn’t typical city.
Most city lots tend to be 30 by 40 feet or so.
When I was young, I could go over a 7 foot high fence, without having to climb it. Most young criminals, who are fit can probably do the same.
If a dog is napping or chewing a bone, it’s going to take a second to change gears, within that second, the criminal is already halfway cross the yard.
It would probably take the dog at least a second of time to cross the yard to go after the perp and within that second second, he’s over the fence and gone.
The cop following him, however, is now facing an alert dog in attack mode. :)
Uh. No.
Dogs can run far faster than you or I.
And dogs can hear you LONG before they see you.
Not tanglefoot, just a dual-ended leash. I had them tethered together so the younger of the two (and a recent adoptee at the time) would learn to follow the cues of the older.
Any dog I had would have played “trip the human” with that lead.
*chuckle*
So that’s what one of those things looks like, never saw one before.
The average fast dog can top out at about 30 mph. The average fast human can go 20 mph.
It’s still fast enough if a guy is already half way across the yard when the dog starts to give chase.
What dogs are you talking about?
A German Shep can get you before you make it to the fence.
Matter of fact, it will likely be waiting for you as you first come over the fence.
Cop does that to my dog, he’d better have his life insurance paid up.
Oh please, all dogs if they are not expecting it, are going to take a moment or two to change gears, even attack trained dogs with a bad attitude. They aren’t machines.
One more time, criminals in blue uniforms demonstrate that a gun in the hand of a law-abiding citizen is safer than a firearm in their holster.
If cops like this were FIRED when they acted out, it wouldn’t be so bad.
But “good” cops IMMEDIATELY join ranks when one of “THEIR” people is threatened by “civilians.”
The “THEM” versus “US” attitude is inculcated in police academies everywhere which are increasingly turning out paramilitary operatives instead of peace officers.
We took the FIRST step towards tyranny when we allowed “professional” paid cops to do what citizen militias and posses with Deputy and marshals had done for YEARS - successfully.
They have become an arrogant, overpaid, armed, standing army in our midst - something the Founders never wanted.
And this is just one fruit of the poisoned tree.
Because he won't be able to respond to you.
I don't think that is quite the solution freedomwarrior998 envisioned, but even implying a legal threat against another Freeper tends to have consequences to one's posting privileges.
Oh, and freedomwarrior998 - you have a lot of nerve even raising that issue when you published Laz's name in the open forum last June. If anything, you got the zot for your utter hypocrisy.
People should just grow up.
I’ve had words w/ people here and I’ve felt the need to report them.
