Almost all of them jumped alone, although eyewitnesses talked of a couple who held hands as they fell. One woman, in a final act of modesty, appeared to be holding down her skirt. Others tried to make parachutes out of curtains or tablecloths, only to have them wrenched from their grip by the force of their descent. The fall was said to take about ten seconds. It would vary according to the body position and how long it took to reach terminal velocity around 125mph in most cases, but if someone fell head down with their body straight, as

“I never heard that the figure was 200.”
I had read an article about this years ago; basically once they started, they continued regularly until the buildings fell. I believe they were people that had taken refuge in the perimeter offices, jumping as the fire slowly spread throughout the impact floors. At the time the estimated number was 200.
We don’t want to forget exactly, we just cannot discuss the horror of seeing those who felt compelled to jump. Many of us of forgotten NOTHING about that day.
The Brits should keep their opinions to themselves.
I posted a lot of graphic first hand accounts of the jumpers here that I found on the web, stories I can no longer find.
My 9-11 VHS (my tape I filmed channel surfing that day)clearly showed one person at a window in the first tower hit, being sucked out and falling from the massive vacuum created by the fireball of the second plane.
This one person didn’t jump. I’ve never heard it discussed or documented anywhere.
This video is from 2007 and poor quality, but if you are not afraid it is a good overview of those who had to jump.. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=df4_1189498628
May the families never see this ..I am outraged by this writing.
Ignorant..insulting..just WRONG
I will never forget.
Well, I’m not going to read the whole piece, because I’m still trying to maintain my Brit paper blackout since I got a virus from one.
So, I can’t judge the article, but I appreciate the mention.
This is the aspect of the attack that is the most gruesome and frightening to me. I’ve been thinking about it for days and I think it’s why I too am trying to avoid the coverage.
However, I don’t think it is America that wants to forget, I think it is our media that wants us to forget, our media in their eternal roles as shills and propagandists for the left and all other America haters such as jihadis.
I won’t presume to know what was going through the minds of those jumpers as they made that decision. I believe that God is merciful, so I prayed for His mercy on them as I saw them fall.
I have always been of the opinion that those that jumped did so because they were going to die on their own call. They were going to go out on their terms, not some body else’s. They did not committ suicide. Beside the fact they were escaping the fire, they died on their terms.
It wasn't a "decision."
It was "I'm on fire and I have to get away from it!"
I understood what you meant as well - don’t take offense from those who are bagging on you.
Remember the fallen 9/11.
We do well to rely on God to choose who will be saved, and who will not.
I don't remember him saying that, but it doesn't surprise me one bit.
Google won’t go there for me either. Hopefully someone has it and can post it.
“Only Love and Then Oblivion”
http://www.ianmcewan.com/bib/articles/love-oblivion.html
This is what happens when ignorant people who ‘claim’ to be religious .. preach false truths!
Nowhere in the bible is it said that suicide is an unforgivable sin!
That is reserved for the sin of ‘Blasphemy’ only!
God wasn’t sitting on His Hands. They were outstretched waiting to receive those innocent souls who would be victims of murder. Those terrorists had turned their faces from God, and were exercising their free will, but for evil purposes, instead of for good.
Not sure it is pointed out in the article here, but the first figherfighter killed at Ground Zero died when a victim jumped from 80+ floors above and landed on him.
It’s in the 9/11 Commission report. One very haunting sentence.
Agreed. Right after 9-11 I thought if terrorists were caught their punishment would be to be placed in a rail container at the top of a tall building. One end over-hanging the building. Container filled with hay, and lit on fire from the far end. Although that might be too quick.
I don't understand how anyone could just turn their back on family because they jumped. These poor people were going to die one way or another. Maybe some didn't think - they just reacted. Maybe some made a clear choice that they were not going to die on the terrorist's terms. No matter what the reason these people were just as much a victim as those who went down with the towers.
God Bless each and every one.
“One woman who jumped was still alive when she landed, and she told the doctor that she had made it, and was smiling.”
Another view - it shows the hope and determination of the human spirit. God Bless all of the victims and survivors. The dead are gone, and at peace. That poor doctor, husband, children, etc. of the woman - they probably think about her every day still.
