Almost all of them jumped alone, although eyewitnesses talked of a couple who held hands as they fell. One woman, in a final act of modesty, appeared to be holding down her skirt. Others tried to make parachutes out of curtains or tablecloths, only to have them wrenched from their grip by the force of their descent. The fall was said to take about ten seconds. It would vary according to the body position and how long it took to reach terminal velocity around 125mph in most cases, but if someone fell head down with their body straight, as

The first night of the first episode of Band of Brothers premiered on September 9, 2001.
I’ve already cried today and it’s not even Sunday yet. I’m going to have to limit what I listen to/read this weekend.
However I did read this article and it makes me EXTREMELY angry... the people who either jumped or fell or were pushed from the towers don’t deserve any speculation or judgement from anyone... especially in the form of an article originating from Muslim-invaded Britain.
God bless our country and our troops.
I read a long account of the “jumpers” years ago. After analysis of footage and photographs, the conclusion about some (not all) was not that they jumped, but they literally fell out of the building, not knowing where they were until they were on their way down. People above the impact points made their way down and got stuck between the floors at the impact. Blinded and choking from smoke, looking to escape the heat, they were seeking clear air and stumbled out.
the most troubling was a first responder who saw a very pregnant woman hit right next to the sculpture between the towers and saw the baby pop out.
I only heard the description, but I can't imagine what it was like to actually see such a thing.
Thoughts similar to the following have crossed my mind many times since 9-11.
I am torn: we are commanded to forgive our enemies, but also to stand against evil. Remember the Crusades, anyone?
Stop beating yourself up. You said nothing wrong. :-)
The Pope declared the jumpers were victims of murder not suicides and this brought comfort to many suffering families.
Your post was in no way disrespectful or accusatory - I think a few here clearly misunderstood what you said.

That aspect of the article is just total B.S. - opportunistic America-bashing and religion-bashing from an almost wholly secularized country.
I used to work arson investigation.
You have no choice. No more than you have a choice when automatic reflex jerks your hand back from a hot stove. Your nervous system will not allow you to stand there and burn.
According to The Word, the only deciding factor in where they spend eternity is whether they were trusting Christ as their Savior. Christ paid the price for ALL the sins of EVERYONE who ASKS Him for forgiveness, including if they made a last-minute desperation plunge to escape that conflagration in the Towers.
God isn’t trying to KEEP US OUT of Heaven; He’s trying to GET US IN! And while faith in His Son is required, it only takes an amount of faith like “a grain of mustard seed.”
Remember the thief on the cross alongside of Christ? Technically, he didn’t even ask for SALVATION. He just said, “Lord, remember me......” And Christ replied, “Today you will be WITH ME IN PARADISE.”
And what of the OTHER perp on the OTHER cross, who was mocking and smart-mouthing? He COULD HAVE had forgiveness, too; IF HE’D ASKED for it.
Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Whatever you do, never ask a firefighter to describe some of the worse things they have ever encountered. You will never forget them.
‘The 200 jumpers who flung themselves from the Twin Towers who have been ‘airbrushed from history’ “
They are the ones I remember the most. Them and the one poor woman who took months to die from her burns.
“And in this country of intense religious fervor, many believe that to be a jumper was to choose suicide rather than accept the fate of God and suicide in whatever circumstances is considered shameful or, indeed, a sin that will send you to Hell.”
I found this statement bizarre. I am a person of intense religious fervor and it has never even OCCURRED to me that they had done something wrong.
Nor had I heard anyone mention this idea - not even any of my intense religious fervor friends and family.
What a ridiculous assertion for this writer to make.
If there was one thing to turn me Atheist, this would be it. God was definitely sitting on his hands that day. Some savior.
I never heard that the figure was 200.
Agreed. Let’s not forget about the part of the article were it states that in some places the floor they were standing on was so hot that they were forced to stand on their desks!
