Erick Erickson: “moving on from Sarah Palin is like leaving Scientology” (Erick, grow up!)
Legal Insurrection ^ | 9/7/2011 | William Jacobson

Posted on 09/07/2011 10:18:27 AM PDT by Lakeshark

I guess that makes me a Scientologist, because I’ve posted repeatedly that Palin holds a special position because there is no one — not even George W. Bush — who has been the subject of the Democratic, mainstream media and left-blogosphere smear machine to the extent Palin has.

So yes, I do take it personally when conservatives lash out at Palin not because of her policy positions or what she’s done or not done in her career, but with personal invective.

It’s not religion, its a cold hard understanding of what is to come, and how those who call Palin a diva or a tease or any of the other names coming from media conservatives do damage to us all. Palin is simply the test case for how the Republican nominee, whoever that person may be, will be treated, and we pile on her at our own peril.
**snip**
Simply by waiting to announce, Palin has driven media conservatives mad. It all seems so familiar.

To not bow at the throne of Sarah you get disowned. You get attacked.

This behavior by the Palin camp has been brewing for a long time.

I remember the first time I was personally attacked by a Palin supporter on FR. It was in February of 2010, and I said on a thread that I thought it would be hard for Palin to run for President in 2012 since she resigned from being Governor and didn't serve out her term.

A Palin supporter called me a fag and said that only homos don't support Palin.

I thought, "Wow, that was a little weird. I guess there's kooks in every camp."

Little did we know this would be become a common occurrence with a lot of her supporters.

Sarah said she'd announce her intentions in Sept and the month has a ways to go. Relax and enjoy and you won't burst a vessel.

I don't mind Rick Perry, it's his adoring supporters I can't stand.

Neither Laura nor Ann are happily married and neither have her accomplishments, although they are both accomplished women in their own rights.

Perhaps they think they’re smarter than Palin, given their elite N.E. university educations?

I look at conservative women pundits and always ponder, “might they believe that Sarah Palin has “enough” and maybe want to deny her the presidency”?

Is it possible for conservative women pundits to be petty? I don’t know.

The One Nation bus tours were dry runs to see how: 1) a campaign would impact the Palin family, and 2) to develop an estimate of how much it all would cost, if she ran it on a tight budget using the family bus and with a very limited staff, relying on O4P, C4P, S4P, FR, etc. to do the ground work and supply the troops.

Unless, of course, her bashers here ARE members of GOP Establishment Corrupt Bastards Club.

...always a possibility...

The question is, WHY is Gov. Palin waiting “till some time in September?” Nobody seems to be able to supply a good reason for that.

Let's work under the supposition that she is indeed planning on running. (If she's not, none of her moves make sense to me -- the idea that she's just building "Brand Palin" doesn't wash, because building up all the expectations and dashing them would basically destroy the "brand".)

I'll further make an assumption that she has a very specific plan that address all fo the concerns raised about infrastructure, funding, organization, etc., as well as all of the political plans needed for a campaign. She comes across as someone who knows how to do this, and if she hasn't, then... well, it will be a short and rather unsuccessful venture.

So... what is the plan? I don't know, and no one outside Palin's innermost circle does either.

We can guess, of course, but that's all it would be, a guess.

There are some logical reasons to delay, of course, such as freedom from FEC regulations. Personally, I think she wants to make the campaign as short and intense as possible, rather than dragging it out over those summer months when no one is really watching anyway. Several folks have theorized that she wants the rest of the field to get a solid vetting before she dominates the spotlight.

All reasonable guesses... which, if any, are right? We will only know after it all happens.

"Sarah is also about to get in where the rule of “there’s only room for one female conservative” Bachmann might leave the race soon as well."

Bachmann's numbers are definitely fading. I like Michelle a lot, but compared to Palin, she's spent very little time in the furnace of media hate. Can she survive?

Maybe everyone has been cynically assuming that Sarah has already decided, that she just wants to keep it a secret. But maybe she realizes the field is not as strong as many would like and she's just waiting for somebody to pick up the heavy rock. If nobody can do it (and so far no one has), then she'll jump in. A lot may depend on whether Perry can push it tonight, or if a lot of us are underwhelmed.

I've been assuming that it would be tactically smart for her to get in just in time to do the Tea Party Debate on CNN on the 12th, which let me erroneously to predict she would do it this past weekend. With the Tea party asking the questions (no stupid gotchas about Levi or her brother-in-law) + CNN's audience of Independents seems like a very good venue for her. But maybe I've over-rated that.

Oh, c’mon... get real. Have you *ever* seen behavior like that? Seriesly? Anywhere on the Webz? If so, you better send me a link or I’m calling BS.

;-)

Why work under that supposition? She has NEVER said she is running. And, since none of her moves make sense to YOU, does that mean they don’t make sense?

I don’t get why people get so worked up. We’ll know one way or the other by the end of the month...when she said she would decide.

Do you really want to go there?

I don't need to go there. The blog you are pimping has a premise that because Palin is a target for abuse from the MSM, she is above legitimate criticism. Erickson's phraseology and comparisons don't really factor into the blog post. It mostly covers the complaints of a few on Palin getting into the race, if at all. I thought the Scientology comparison by Erickson was weak because it doesn't make sense.

Erick the Red has discovered what nearly every other media outlet has: mention the word “Palin” and viewership/readership skyrockets... Just sayin’

Oh excellent! It doesn’t map Scientology perfectly, but it’s pretty darned close.

I’m going to have to check out the referenced book. Thanks!

Glad you like it! I read Combatting Cult Mind Control almost twenty years ago, and was really influenced by it. Steve Hassan is a world-leading exit counsellor who took the art to a whole new level in the late '70s. He's an ex-Moonie.

Why work under that supposition?

Because if we assume the inverse, then there is no plan, and therefore no reason to answer the question being asked.

Silly logical me, I like to put out my assumptions before my analysis, so that the analysis can be seen in light of the assumptions.

Eric Erickson is a fat little troll, who appointed himself as a leader on the right.

I laugh every time I read one of his rants. A.) He can’t write for sh!t. And B.) It’s usually some directive or demand that we call this Senator and/or that cause.

He’s like our sides KOS. A little puke tyrant.

PS - He can suck it. As can Coulter, Ingraham, Rove, and the rest of the POFS establishment class who have now decided to come out of the wood work and trash Palin as her announcement draws closer.

PSS - Here’s hoping she surprising them all and runs 3rd f n party. I hate them all.

I hardly think Perry would have gotten the questioning attention he (and the voters) so richly deserve had Governor Palin already been in the race. I think most of the whining is coming from people who really don’t want their candidate to receive the requisite “exam”.

Ditto your comment - it was a good article.

It’s funny to watch the RINO/Liberal wing of the GOP meltdown because Sarah will NOT follow their “intellectual” recommendations.

Coulter/Ingraham continue to be absolutely disgusting in how they wrap themselves in the elitist wing of GOP and disrespect Sarah and, by extension, Constitutional Americans.
