People should stop calling the site of the September 11 attacks "Ground Zero," New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said on Tuesday, urging Americans to move past a term long linked with the World Trade Center's twin towers destruction.
"We will never forget the devastation of the area that came to be known as ground zero. Never. But the time has come to call those 16 acres what they are: The World Trade Center and the National September 11 Memorial and Museum," Bloomberg said in a speech on the rebuilding of lower Manhattan.
Ground Zero originated as a term to describe the site of a nuclear explosion and later was used to refer to the point of any dramatic or violent event.

Eventually he will order everyone to call it “Cordoba House Plaza” but he won’t announce that demand until after the 10th year 9/11 ceremony.
Mayor Bloomberg can go pound sand. End of message.
Okay, I can understand wanting to call the site the 9/11 Memorial instead of “Ground Zero”. But did the mayor have to speechify about it? I don’t think so.
46 murders over the holiday weekend, and this is on his agenda this morning? They should call the whole town ground zero at this rate!
Hopefully they will call it Bloomberg’s political graveyard. What a nincompoop this guy is.
Bloomberg, like all secular relativists, is horrified at the thought that good and evil exist. Ground Zero is the ultimate confirmation of evil. So, he can’t deal with it.
In fact, to borrow a line from Colonel Jessup in A Few Good Men — Mr. I’ve-got-my-bloomers-in-a-twist, “You can’t handle the truth!”
Why? Let’s be factual. Isn’t that what Al-Qaeda called it?
He doesn’t want much, does he?
How about calling it the Islamic Killing Field?
Bloomberg should be tried and hung for treason!
I would ignore the fool. Pity him.
Just more political correctness from a liberal.
We can’t say ground zero anymore. check.
We can’t say illegal alien. check.
We can’t say Christmas. check.
Just go down the list of censored words and phrases, and make sure you are in compliance. To the list we add ground zero, so that someone, somewhere, isn’t offended by the use of that term.
Perhaps we’re still allowed to say 9/11 or September 11th because it is a specific date on the calendar, and banning reference to a date is a bridge too far for the politically correct crowd.
“Good God, what is wrong with New York?”
Aside from being in the Northeast “power corridor” that wants to t6ell the world how to believe and act?
Would prefer to stop calling him “mayor”.
and let’s call The Battle of the Bulge “a tank action near Malmedy”.
Go soak your head, Mike.
Hey, that’s good. The PC revisionists could then refer to Iwo Jima “an amphibious operation on a small Pacific Island”.
