UPDATE 7:30 P.M.: Mark Stanford, the fire chief for the Texas Forest Service , said subdivisions have been evacuated there but they have no estimate on what structures have been lost.

People are being told to evacuate to the First Baptist Church in Smithville and Bastrop Middle School, Stanford said.

In addition, State Highways 71 and 21 in Bastrop County have been closed, Stanford said.

Update, 6:48 p.m.: Wildfires have consumed more than 6,000 acres in Bastrop County, and firefighters are still working to get the blazes under control.

So, maybe the answer to our prayers was that the wind would quit blowing so the fire fighters could get a leg up.

The rain will come.

Thank you. That was really to everyone. But you’re awesome to try to help. There are a lot of people that are going to need some serious help in the next few weeks. If I’m in shape to help I’m going to be there.

Yes, the wind has calmed. I’m in Pflugerville and could see the smoke from both major fire zones today, from the east and from the west.

Two huge plumes on both sides of me for as far as I could see.

I’ve been watching wind monitors in that area and winds have been low most of today compared to yesterday.

I think at times like this we feel so helpless and want to do something to show those in need that we care.

Just posting on Facebook about ways people can help is the least I can do.

This is going to be a long-term recovery that is going to require massive and various types of help.

Being disabled, I will probably just try to make donations to try to help. Wish I could do more.

Please, take care and be safe.

I don’t think we’ll need to evac. Around here is mostly plowed farm fields. There isn’t any “forest” or even very much brush or woods.

We’ll see though.

That’s good to hear ...

Whenever we were sort of close, which wasn’t often, I always did a “mental” list of what I’d take. Darn list kept growing...

The fire maps tend to show an increase in just about all areas for some reason. Went outside because the news said we had an orange moon from the smoke, but it wasn’t. The cool finally got here though!

Wind has laid, still blowing some, but I’m well south of most of the bad fires.

*PING*.

This might be a decent thread to talk about the importance of preps and bug-out bags...?
