WASHINGTON — President Obama abandoned a contentious new air pollution rule on Friday, buoying business interests that had lobbied heavily against it, angering environmentalists who called the move a betrayal and unnerving his own top environmental regulators.

“At the same time, I have continued to underscore the importance of reducing regulatory burdens and regulatory uncertainty, particularly as our economy continues to recover. With that in mind, and after careful consideration, I have requested that Administrator Jackson withdraw the draft Ozone National Ambient Air Quality Standards at this time.” "They told William M. Daley, the White House chief of staff, that the rule would be very costly to industry and would hurt Mr. Obama’s chances for a second term."

And you wonder why Obama did it...!? I wonder if his base is happy with this...someone post this on DU for reactions... : )

If The One is worried about re-election, then he would blame Republicans for Obamacare and rescind it. We’re in this mess because of it. The LSTM would blame the Pubies anyway and he would come out smelling like a rose. The Pubies would not respond as usual.

"I have continued to underscore the importance of reducing regulatory burdens . . . "

The Obammunist has reduced no regulation. This one isn't even on the books.

I’ve actually seen liberals claiming that Obamacare IS a Republican invention now.

People at Democrat Underground are flipping out over it, calling Obama a Republican president and calling for a primary challenger

Actually, IIRC, some of the unions came out against these regulations, too, because they were afraid it would cause more job loss in their fields. I suspect that’s why he backed off on enforcement (of something that is only dubiously legal in any case).

“At the same time, I have continued to underscore the importance of reducing regulatory burdens and regulatory uncertainty . . ."

"Continued to underscore?"

"Continued to underscore"

Just when did 0 START to "underscore" reducing regulatory burden?

In this context, "reducing regulatory burden" is the same as the liberal, "reduced expenditures" which are actually just increases that aren't as large as they had wanted.

0's concept of "reducing regulatory burden" means not adding ALL the new regulation he wanted (or that advanced his ability to reward industries/unions that support him).

The administration will try to follow the more lenient Bush administration standard set in 2008 until a scheduled reconsideration of acceptable pollution limits in 2013.

There is the key. If President Obama gets re-elected, he will impose this (and who knows what other job-killing regulations) after he can no longer run again.

I heard somebody (I think it was Hannity) say yesterday that he could support any of the current crop of presidential candidates over President Obama (he was queasy on Paul, due to foreign policy positions). I am not too fond of Johnson, Huntsman or Paul - but they don't stand a chance of the nomination. But I will crawl over broken glass to vote for Perry, Bachman, Romney or any of the others (if they can figure a way to win). Who knows, it might even be Palin.

In full disclosure, my wife and I vote by absentee, so I really wouldn't have to crawl over broken glass ;^)

That claim is a whole lot like the boner budget cuts from obummers proposed budget. A cut from a none approved budget, and a cut in an unapproved regulation. Are about the same. Voodoo land.

You mention something many are missing - he stopped "enforcement" of it, he didn't trash it. Once he thinks he can get away with it, they will enforce it with a vengeance.

Obama got rid of a regulation that didn’t exist. How courageous!

Get rid of FrankenDodd. Then I will be impressed.

Why is nobody screaming bloody murder here? The President by fiat can make regulatory decisions on private industry? Really? Congress is hugely dropping the ball on this tyranical Presidency.

Most just refuse to acknowledge that it is us against DC. Congress did not drop the ball, Obama is just carrying it for them.

This is a shell game. He said that he was postponing the regulations until after the elections. The liberal know this and pretend to go bonkers knowing full well that if re-elected Obama will implement these rules. Look for more unemployment under the next four years if Obama is re-elected.

All one needs to see is how the so-called tea party freshmen are treated by their own party much less the likes of the CBC’s recent verbal crap.

It is high time to bring out the big broom and take the majority. Remember, the wave of state houses and governers going red (I hate that designation because it is just about as upside down as angelfood cake) in the last election? All of the states losing seats and also states gaining seats which now has the new redistricting going on not only for those but all states?

I honestly beleive this is the real root of the despiration we see in DC on both sides of the ailse. It is ours to take and we’d better be damned well prepared to do it. For all those who will bear our names for a long time to come.

If we don’t primary the elites, it will be the end of this grand experience that started on Dec. 16, 1773.

Obama has done all he can do to destroy America. He has been a good and faithful radical. He followed the the handbook but now the writing is on the wall.
They have pushed the limits as far as they can go without inadvertantly starting a “right-wing” revolution or worse a armed revolt.
Job well done dear leader but now its time to go away.
