DJIA down over 230 in the first half hour on this news.
“Please watch MSNBC right now. It is beyond funny!”
what are they saying?
Americans, ALL!!! Boycott the Obama speech next Thursday evening!!! Obama, simply stated is out to destroy our economy, followed by the destruction of our great country. Wake up!!!
Now we all know the reason for the speedy appearance before joint session of congress next week, they knew these figures coming are a killer. Coupled with his jobs speech, it just screams panic.
With 40-some million on food stamps (bread lines?) and 311 million total population, back of the envelope says 13% right there.
I understand there’s all kinds of puts and takes and whatnot. But consider all the folks between the food stamp and a full-time job, and that percentage has to be much higher.
Every month this apparently has to be explained. So let’s explain it again
Non-farm payrolls, or establishment survey. The zero jobs created is derived from a survey of 10s of thousands of employers nationwide. It is derived from the payroll amounts these private and government employers report to the BLS. This only counts people who do not work on farms.
Jobless rate, or household survey. The unemployment rate is derived primarily from a survey of households. This survey asks people several questions, primarily, do you have a job or don’t you have a job. And are you actively looking for work if you don’t. The jobless rate is the ratio of people who are defined as out of work but looking for a job divided by the labor pool.
Jobless claims. The weekly jobless claims is derived primarily from first-time filings of unemployment benefits, along with continuing claims for unemployment over a longer period of time. This survey only measures people who have lost their jobs or can’t find work. It doesn’t measure people who have been hired or have jobs.
3 surveys. telling us three things. measuring 3 different things. measuring things in different ways. They are not directly related to each other.

THE ONLY THING WE HAVE TO FEAR IS OBAMA HIMSELF.
I think it is important for responsible people to remind Americans that the CJCS Admiral Mullen said “ The national debt is the greatest threat to our national security.” Any politician that offers policies to increase the debt is guilty of treason against America.
The Supreme Court must stop its dawdling and review the Obamacare mess. A decision on where that program goes from here would do much to resolve a major question of where the economy goes from here.
[With this plus the vote in German Parliament on 9/7, Obama could very well be giving his speech in the middle of a massive market crash.]
Oh great, the Obama and his friends will turn on the crisis mode. Wonder how many trillions he’ll ask for?
Bush’s Fault!
Obama is the I can do NOTHING but blame, so-called president.
Anecdotal evidence regarding the employment situation:
I have a friend who has had a job placement business for 20+ years. I had dinner with her the other night and she said that when we have bad economic news (major stock meltdown for example), she will often lose a handful of her contracts to hire new employees. On the day of the S&P downgrade, she lost 100% of her contracts. Everyone of her clients decided that day that they would not take the risk of adding more employees. These employers ranged from small to mammoth and were located nationwide.
This is just one small operation. I’m sure this scenario was repeated across the US, and I’ve been waiting for these numbers after our dinner, knowing after our conversation that they would be horrible.
Can someone explain to me, how this 9.1% unemployment rate can remain steady, when we have to create a certain level of jobs to stay even, and we’re not hitting that level month after month after month after month...
Jobs? How do I spell it?
G O L F .. Do you work for pmslsdnbc?
Say Hi to Al and Ed for me.
I don't think Oboma graduated from Harvard at all. I think he may have gotten in as a foreign exchange student, but failed. He just hung out there for a while.
I think the left saw a community organizer who could speak good "cracker" and created a fictional character out of this inner city loser simply because he was black.
BUT...to the lefts dismay, the adoration during the election went to his head. They lost control of him, and now they're stuck with this monster they created.
What is the left to do now? Oboma, and his failed psudeo-presidency, belongs to them. He is the democrat party now.
OK...what’s going on in Germany on 9/7?
They only count those who are signing up for unemployment for the first time. Farm workers, self employed, college graduates, those already unemployed, and those who ran out of unemployment insurance aren't counted.
In other words, things are a LOT worse than 9.1%. (9.1% only represents the new ones.)
Yeah, I think the answer is in there. It still grates me that we need to create something like 350,000 new jobs each month, to take care of the new pool of workers (someone adjust the number if need be), and we’re not even coming close, yet the number remains pegged at 9.1%. This method seems absolutely worthless to me.
As you state, there’s a massive number of people who have dropped out. The number of idle people is grown larger each month.
I would rather see what the pool of working age people is, discount those that are unable to work, and compare how many of them are employed. I’m sure there would be problems with that too, but it would seem far more accurate.
