Perry dominates in South Carolina (PPP Poll has Perry up by 23 pts.)
Public Policy Polling ^ | 8/30/11 | PPP

Raleigh, N.C. – If there was any question that Rick Perry is the new Republican presidential frontrunner before now, PPP’s latest poll of South Carolina confirms it. A week ago, PPP showed Perry jumping to a narrow lead in first-caucus Iowa. Now, he has a double-digit lead in what will likely be the third-voting state. Perry tops with 36% to Mitt Romney’s 16%, Michele Bachmann’s 13%, Herman Cain’s 9%, Newt Gingrich’s 8%, Ron Paul’s 5%, Rick Santorum’s 4%, and Jon Huntsman’s 2%. This is a sea change from when PPP last polled the race in June, with Perry not included. Romney led with 30% to Cain’s and Gingrich’s 15%, Bachmann’s 13%, and Paul’s 10%.

If Sarah Palin joins the fray, it has no impact on Perry’s dominance but a lot on Bachmann’s standing. Palin would place third at 10% behind Perry still at 36%, Romney at 13%, followed by Cain’s 9%, and Bachmann and Gingrich tied at 7%.

The only time I have seen any poll on here not called leftist is when Palin was winning in it.

Please cite for me when we found it advantageous to use Democrat polling in the past? We pound that polling constantly here, but if it backs our guy it has to be reasoned.

You don’t see any problem with this?

PPP had Doug Hoffman up by 19 points three days prior to the special election in NY23 two years ago.

Fine, you disagree with the poll. I am not pinning my hopes on any single poll. As I said at the outset, this poll seems to be in line with the overall trend, including other polls in SC. Now, if you want to disagree with the poll, why don't you point to some other polls that have significantly different trends. Don't just argue, educate. Otherwise, you just sound like a bitter supporter of some other candidate that is not doing well in this poll.

How many times do we have to say that Palin isn’t going to endorse anyone including Perry - she said so in a interview the other day and that was with Perry in the field!

I just had a thought that Colin Powell will challenge Obama so we better have a strong candidate in there.

“I agree to not trust any polls.”

Smart move. Sophistication of polling methodology has made polling more corrupt rather than more honest. Simply pick a sampling and word the question(s) in a way to give your client the result he wants. When a D+9 doesn't work, CBS and NBC resort to “weighting” until they get the desired results.

Can't you folks see the dangers of supporting another Bush-like character to the White House?

Frankly, despite the breathless, wild-eyed megaposts put up by Palinstinians, I haven't seen a whole lot beyond his support for illegal aliens to convince me that Perry's a RINO or a bad candidate. And shoot, if we want to talk about someone being soft on IAs, well, we can talk about SARAH! too.

The Gardasil thing? When numerous Texans tell me that the real story is way different from what we hear on FR, I tend to believe them, since I tend to believe people who are right there with first hand experience over weirdos living in New Hampshire posting up half-literate screeds on an internet forum.

Same pretty much goes with the Trans-Texas corridor thing - apparently what actually happened, and what Palinstinians on FR post up, are two different things.

As for Pam Geller and Robert Spencer, well, I sort of tuned them out years ago.

This poll showed a 74% TEA party favorable opinion. Why would the forget to spin (lie about) that?

I have been wondering for some time if Paln is setting herself up for a VP position. Everything in it’s order, and all that. “ <<<

My take is that Sarah would be a red flag to a bull that Perry would LOVE to use against the Marxists, in their face, but can’t. Their is a national election to win and our nominee will need a VP to compliment and not clone his conservative bono fidis. Who he NEEDS for a national run, beyond the base he will already have, will be the pick. I think Rubio seals the deal with the minorities and the future also for the next generation of comers.

We are not ignoring the bad stuff about Perry. We are quite familiar with it. We just don’t give a ****. The good far, FAR outweighs the bad.

Of course she won't endorse anyone at this point... not while she's mulling a run herself.

Right now we’re trying to get Conservative candidates to pull out, so Perry can run away with the nomination.

No one is doing any such thing. Right now Bachmann and Cain are disappointing. Before Perry got in they were not even making a dent in Mittens. Mittens has been raising tons of cash and slowly becoming a Juggernaut. He was going to be the nominee. At least we have a guy in there that is eroding that fast. When the other candidates start moving in the polls, I will pay attention. Until then, I will have an open mind to Perry. Mittens is 100% unacceptable to me.

I am no Perry cheer leader. I am a Santorum man. I am upset a true Conservative like him is not gaining traction, but what are you going to do?

If Perry is such a RINO why did Sarah Palin endorse him?

Okay then you buy the idea that Democrats in Reagan’s day were great people, dedicated to doing what was best for our nation. Why it was only natural to support Al Gore in that time frame.

You think that it’s okay to state you want open borders between here and Mexico. Wow, really?

You think that it’s a Conservative’s perfect solution to propose the Trans-Texas Corridor instead of simply improve existing rights of way?

You think it’s a Conservative move to plan a new massive right of way across the state to take over 70,000 acres by eminent domain?

You think it’s a good Conservative policy to refuse to support a fence or wall on our southern border?

You think it’s a good Conservative policy to refuse to repatriate illegals, give their kids here rights U.S. Citizens from other states can’t even get. Really?

You think it’s a Conservative idea to state that every young girl must provide evidence of having taken the Gardasil regimen, unless their parents step in to object? Really?

You think it’s a good Conservative idea to toss the whole Gardasil determination process on it’s ear, by making parents look like some sort of animal if they don’t get the Gardasil regmine for their girls, thereby causing more young girls to have to submit to something that caused over 100 deaths and thousands of immune deficiency problems for other girls? Honest?

This guy has been making major screw-ups for decades.

I was eighteen when I registered to vote. Even then I know that the Democrats were not interested in supporting our nation.

Perry couldn’t figure that out until the early 90’s, even after watching the Democrat’s actions during the 80s.

This is a guy you think is Conservative?

Grunthor, that doesn’t even make sense to you.
