Texas Gov. Rick Perry has a commanding lead in the 2012 GOP presidential race, and that wont likely change if tea party favorite Sarah Palin decides to run, a new CNN/ORC International poll indicates....The poll’s data show that, for now, Mr. Perry is the clear favorite of tea party supporters. Ms. Palin won support from 10% of voters, leaving her in third place just ahead of Mrs. Bachmann.

"She should have jumped in a month ago.

Why?

She already has name recognition, an Army of volunteers ready to do battle, and can raise money by snapping her fingers.

There's nothing to be gained by being the lightening rod again. Let the others take the talking head flak for now, and as they do so, the voters will realize more and more that the press has a nasty animus against all Republicans, which will make them want to take another look at Sarah, her character, and her record.

Reagan didn't declare until the last week of November. Why? Because he was a Smart Man.

Thanks for the reply Charles.

since illegals would probably want to become legal, I don’t see much chance that they would lie about wanting to be legal just to get into college, but I suppose it could happen.

I don't see how you can prove that a person did not intend to apply for legal status "at the earliest opportunity that I am eligible to do so," which might mean when amnesty occurs. Maybe a Texas legal expert could help me out.

My view is that a "dream act" acts as a foot in the door for general amnesty. The existence of such a program creates the need for more money spent on new college studies programs, and leftist professors find receptive minds among students who were put on the path by other leftist organizations. When they graduate, they need a visa, a "jobs program," a "path to citizenship."

Perry may not know that this "intent to apply for legal residence" loophole is in the program. Or maybe I have overlooked something, and there is no problem at all.

Hmmm Gov Palin gets a Ms. and Rep Bachmann gets a Mrs. seems strange doesn’t it. as if Bachmann is a wife and Palin isn’t.

I think we have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with Sarah Palin.

I think once Palin starts campaigning she will show people that she is a well-qualified, common-sense unifier who will appeal to conservatives, independents, and Reagan Democrats.

You've expressed the bottom line, in my opinion. Some people are falling all over themselves over the opening acts, but they haven't seen anything yet. The main attraction is still to come.

I think we're going to witness a campaign for the ages. She's going to re-write the book on how it's done.

Some folks just aren’t reading Palin’s moves correctly. They don’t look deep enough to see that she’s employing a carefully thought out and orchestrated strategy to win the nomination.

They buy into her feints and slights of hand, believing exactly what she wants them to believe.

Looking at what she’s doing through the lens of military strategy makes all the difference, and explains much about why she’s doing (and not doing) a great many things.

I hate to say it, but I believe you are right. I love Sarah, but do not think the time is right for her. Not a single person, other than FR friends, that I have asked support her. Even those I had cut out of my life for voting for the zero are contacting me now begging forgiveness. They all say they will vote for anybody over him except for Sarah. They’ve had a belly full of inexperience.

I believe Sarah will be POTUS someday. Not this time. I hope she goes for the Senate, kicks major fanny, and proves once and for all that she is indeed what we here at FR know her to be.

I am not a Perry fan, btw.

VICENTE FOX: I’m talking about a community of North America, an integrated agreement of Canada, the United States, and Mexico in the long term

RICK PERRY:President Fox’s vision for an open border is a vision I embrace, as long as we demonstrate the will to address the obstacles to it.

so Perry embraced the vision for a North American “community”/UNION

So you aren’t missing anything. Perry is for open borders admitted out of his own mouth

PALIN: No, I'm impressed with the line up but there still is quite a long process, lot of coming and goings with this line up... I know I'm not the only potential candidate sitting on the sidelines waiting to see things unfold.

I've been accused more than once on FR of using "liberal talking points" when I point out that Sarah is sitting on the sidelines. Apparently, Sarah herself is using "liberal talking points"?

Much like Ron Paul, I have a far bigger problem with Palin’s supporters than I do with Palin herself.

That's my problem as well. The problem is that her zealots can't see the hypocrisy in their own actions. Her supporters state that Palin is a victim of the media, yet then they continue to smear other conversative candidates with flat out lies.

Perry and Palin both seem to be for a “guest worker program.” I worry that such programs become “paths to citizenship” eventually.

Thank you CNN.

This 'news' ought to get Sarah's blood up to where she will jump in for sure!

People like Sarah love a challenge. The communist news network just challenged her. They will rue the day. . .

Sarah will run.

Sarah will win the nomination.

Sarah will win the election in a landslide.

Get used to it.

And she hasn't even begun to fight!

This woman knows how to work!

Can you even imagine how she will shake up the beltway?

Patriotic Americans can't wait!

Unlike you Perry haters and your irrational posts...

Messes you up, doesn't it, that I'm not unhinged about Palin the way you and your cohorts appear to be about Perry . . . but then I'm not a member of a cult of personality, I like people but I don't worship them.

You have a definite tendency on this board to be insulting and you indulge in personal attacks.Do your parents realize you are insulting adults on a conservative discussion board?

There is nobody stopping anyone from running.

If Palin wants to run, she can run. If she doesn’t run, it will be because she does not want to run.

Palin has not said that she is being told not to run. If she did, I missed her saying that. Do you have a quote?

Once again, you just make up stuff.

Thank you.

Now that’s real data. Not just a “memory” of a “recent interview”.

What’s the deal with all the sniping of other candidates. I am not loyal to any yet because we are 5+ months away from the PRIMARY SEASON. Personally I welcome any and all to hop in if they want and let the competition of positions proceed. Palin can jump in at her leisure if she wants and that’s fine. I believe she has until mid-October to qualify for Iowa and NH and if that’s her strategy (or what not) so be it. Perry has an impressive lead at this point but no doubt a Palin entry would significantly shake things up.

Some of it is good vetting of candidates, but most of it is nothing more than a sophomoric cyber version of a food fight ("Oh yeah? Well your candidate's an uber-RINO, so TAKE THIS! [splat]). Best thing to do at this point is stay out of the cafeteria, let the kids get it out of their system, and watch from a window. The best candidates will emerge closer to the primary season.
