All of us have been watching all the hype by the media concerning this rainstorm Irene and wondering why are the media making such fools of themselves.
They have been desperate to find drama shots and massive destruction to breathlessly report on but all they can find is a stormy day.
We laugh at their idiocy BUT, I believe, it won't be long before the real reason is revealed.
It is no secret that obama has been looking for a reason for another round of 'quantitative easing' that will pass Congress, well this is it.
He will insert hundreds of billion of dollars for 'disaster relief' into his request for more money to help all the people who have been stricken by this 'historic event'.
THAT is why the media and, yes that includes Fox News, has been reporting non-stop with drama which doesn't exist. It doesn't matter if they appear ridiculous, if they can't find it, they will invent it for their president.
Governor Christie has started the ball rolling with his statement 'this could cost billions if not tens of billions' of damage.
When the House is presented with the obama's request for more money it will be the biggest test for the Tea Party Representatives to hold their ground they have faced so far.
After all, how could they be so heartless to deny millions of people the help they so desperately need?
There's a lot of that.
Happens with every hurricane or Nor'Easter.
If this had been a snow instead of rain, those areas with 18 inches would have 180 inches of snow on the ground ~ that's 15 feet!
Imagining the runoff from a really serious snow, and what that can do recognize that it's still raining in Massachusetts. Looks like they're getting the biggest mass of water. Then it will run off. That's when the good stuff happens and you get those neat pictures of houses tumbling into rivers and stuff.
I agree completely. After this debacle I hope they can construct a strategy to gracefully back away from the "doomsday mode" and truthfully report what people are likely to encounter when the outlook improves as it did in this case.

Balderdash! The media is hyping Irene for ratings.
The media has no interest in the truth. Their only interest is pumping up their ratings. If they can convince you that a catastrophic natural disaster is about to occur, they know you’ll tune in.

The most costly hurricanes (googling) were Jeanne, ($4.x bilion) Rita, Hugo, Ivan, Charley, Wilma ($11.x billion) Ike ($12.6 bil), Andrew ($22.2 bil) Katrina ($45 bil)
Anything but one in the top three isn’t too likely to cause a wave of (new) genuflecting FSA soldiers wishing to rededicate their existences to the Brave New World the Wun would like to enforce. And if 0bama is wishing for a Katrina so he can ride in like a white (oops) knight and be the salvation for a huge crowd of people....color (oops) me doubtful.
I’m not ashamed to say I’m getting positively nauseous over the relentless wall-to-wall coverage of this thing. Enough already!

I’m in the western side of NH, near the Connecticut River. Not going so well for us.
About 15% of the state is without power.

Not as bad as the ice storm from a couple years ago, but still substantial. The line and road crews probably won’t be coming out for a while yet, at least till the worst of the wind subsides.
We have a generator. Hoping that our propane will hold out at least that long.
Winds are about what we get in a good snow or ice storm. Not as strong as winds from Thunderstorms, which have left us without power at times throughout the Summer and have taken more than a few trees down.
I think it’s weird how, once a hurricane shows up on the radar, every politician in the country runs for the nearest camera and microphone. What a bunch of buffoons. Modern day politicians have to be one of the lowest lifeforms on the planet.
It is what the media does.
Wasn’t it just after Katrina that we saw reporter sitting in a boat doing a report on flooding when a guy waded by in the background.
There could be some political games too.
The Leftists in the media are there to make money so that is one reason for hype. The old saying in the media goes,
“If it bleeds, it leads.”
Then the other aspect of it is the Left loves emotion, drama/histrionics especially fear. They are master manipulators of emotion.
Their storytelling gives them a great amount of self-appointed importance and superiority over their viewers.
Best thing to do is just ignore them because that is the one thing they absolutely hate the most. The next best thing to do is criticize and laugh and show them to be the arrogant fools they truly are.
Irene was to be Obama’s Katrina, and he was going to use the event to show us he is better than Bush. Of course, we are lucky Irene petered out, so we wouldn’t have to watch Obama fail again.

Agreed...I have had summer storms do more damage to my garden than Irene has done (so far)...I ALWAYS lose my internet during a thunderstorm, but not during Irene (again, so far).
I heard Weather Channel on-camera meteorologist say earlier today that “he felt let down” because Irene had become a tropical storm just before hitting New York city.

Well, there’s the redistribution of wealth angle, as you say, plus in an election year, they need pictures of the dweeb attempting to look presidential, offering solace to “victims” and so on. I hope it backfires.
They don't report facts they hype the human misery and despair.

geez...sounds horrible there WB...I don't understand how you're making it without internet...er...wait a minute...you still have internet? How's that possible with all that death, disaster and destruction? I hope you're sharing the internet wealth with your neighbors.
Actually I was expecting the "globull warming" crowd to jump on this like a duck on a June-bug. "See see we told you but you wouldn't listen. It IS settled science but you just don't care about the planet and now we are all gonna die!"
