All of us have been watching all the hype by the media concerning this rainstorm Irene and wondering why are the media making such fools of themselves.
They have been desperate to find drama shots and massive destruction to breathlessly report on but all they can find is a stormy day.
We laugh at their idiocy BUT, I believe, it won't be long before the real reason is revealed.
It is no secret that obama has been looking for a reason for another round of 'quantitative easing' that will pass Congress, well this is it.
He will insert hundreds of billion of dollars for 'disaster relief' into his request for more money to help all the people who have been stricken by this 'historic event'.
THAT is why the media and, yes that includes Fox News, has been reporting non-stop with drama which doesn't exist. It doesn't matter if they appear ridiculous, if they can't find it, they will invent it for their president.
Governor Christie has started the ball rolling with his statement 'this could cost billions if not tens of billions' of damage.
When the House is presented with the obama's request for more money it will be the biggest test for the Tea Party Representatives to hold their ground they have faced so far.
After all, how could they be so heartless to deny millions of people the help they so desperately need?
It appeared to me that FEMA didn’t play that much of a role. The movers and shakers of this event were the different states’ governors, as it should be. Too bad LA didn’t have a governor in 2005 nor New Orleans a mayor.

I live in New England. Every store is sold out of water, batteries, half the food, flashlights, etc....
Who is mostly out of work? Construction guys.
What a better way to make a ton of construction jobs than to wipe out some of the most densely populated areas in the country.

It’s as if there has been no other news in the world for the past week except Irene.
And now that it’s fizzling out, and the actual damage is far less than feared, will the media look foolish for obsessing over it for an entire week?????
Oh there are lots of aspects to this.
First we have the way cool camera shots of things blowing around. That’s fun. My better half is a weather junkie and checks in with the weather channel for at least an hour a day when something like this comes up.
You have multiple politicians who can grandstand before it his, i.e. Bloomburg, Christie, Obama, etc.
It gives a nice reason for Obama to cut that disaster of a vacation short and get something else on the news.
Under don’t waste a crisis, we see Obama being able to juxtapose his response to Bush’s hyped Katrina response. Obama gets to be portrayed as calm, reasonable and competent.
Reporters get to beat up on Republicans with “Surely funding for FEMA should be 100%, right?”
As an aside, did anyone see Chris Wallace with Ron Paul this morning? What a dumb_ _ _. Props to Ron Paul for refusing to play along. He made a great point about the government making things worse by insuring people to build homes that they have to be evacuated from. It made me think, “Maybe Ron Paul wouldn’t be so bad if congress were to check his craziness” then I got a hold of myself.
So they were all ready with their stories then...... Irene disappointed.
We’ve got Jose coming soon. They can only hope for the best/worst I suppose.

FOX news has continued to yammer about this for 3 days. And I rarely watch TV and less now.
One would think the “storm” was going to reach the Rocky Mountains.

Same here...still have power in New Hampshire, water is flowing out of my tap just fine, and the leaves on my still-intact corn plants are barely stirring.

the bouy reports, air speed reports all indicated it was not a hurricane for at least the last 36 hours. The lamestream media kept reporting it was a hurricane.
FIRST TIME EVER IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD A HURRICANE HIT LAND AND DIDN’T SLOW DOWN.

The "broken window" fallacy writ large. We hear this after every major disaster. Won't people ever learn?
The media hype is embarassing.
And the forecasters too.
They were so far off it’s not even funny. How is that possible? Other than politics.
They forecast whole beaches would disappear...

Water in our town is gravity fed. If the water stops, it means that the massive water mains have been cut. No hurricane, tornado, or blizzard is going to stop that. The ONLY thing to stop our nice pure water is a massive earthquake or nuke. In either of those cases, we are so screwed anyway.
I happened to drive from Keene NH to Springfield MA on Friday. I had to stop in a couple of stores on the way down. No batteries in any of the larger store. They don’t sell batteries in the liquor NH store.
Ssssh. Don’t tell the Mass State Troopers that I bought a couple of bottles of wine in NH for consumption in MA. I mean, MY GOD...WE could have run out of water! What would we have to drink?

I make it a practice to never watch NHC nor TWC as here in NC we have excellent meterologists who give us great, reliable coverage. I did switch to TWC soon after we got the news of Irene being split off due to the dry air from the west, just to see what they were reporting. Whoever the chick was seemed she was about to cry at this news. Those of us who were praying for God’s intervention and mercy were praising His name! The MSM is losing viewers, what a way to get everyone back in line. Sad state of affairs we have in this country.
