Perryphobia
Politico ^ | August 26th, 2011 | CURT ANDERSON

Posted on 08/27/2011 6:58:43 AM PDT by shield

A wave of fear has come over Washington — and it’s not the earthquake or the hurricane. Self-appointed Republican elites, fretting Hill Republicans and left-wing carnival barkers all have one thing in common: Perryphobia.

It’s an acute condition, with different manifestations. But it has the same root cause – arrogance toward Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

Let’s get this straight — with Congress being as popular as cholera, they think they are going to hurt Perry’s chances by dissing him? Really? Congress is at an all-time low, according to a new Gallup poll, with only 13 percent of Americans approving of “the way Congress is handling its job.”

The fact is that a candidate seeking support from actual humans who vote would be smart to distance him or herself from Congress — and cholera.

Anyway, the arrogance of the left is easy to prove. And it is even easier to prove that they are in full-out Perryphobia. A random sampling of left-wing oracles this week produces these gems: Ed Shultz calls him a racist; Rachael Maddow says he wants to “lynch” Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, and Chris Matthews insists that “he looks like a clown.”

Now for Hill Republicans, whoever they are. A Politico story, “Rick Perry’s loose lips worry Hill Republicans” put Perryphobia on full display.

Let’s start with the left, because that’s easy. Liberals — roughly 20 percent of America, fortunately — are generally very willing to tell you that they know more than you do. If you don’t believe that, try a field experiment today and you will see.

But liberals don’t just talk the talk, they walk the walk...........

BLASPHEMY, LomanBill, BLASPHEMY, I SAY!!

Perry is the second coming! For shame, fomenting schism and disrupting the chosen path of the Electable One! That's all Perry followers need say in response to your rabble-rousing recusancy, because one doesn't have to actually reply to criticism of the Perry if one supports Him. All I absolutely must do is insult the person pointing out the facts about Perry, as liberals insult their opponents.

Not that the supporters of Rick Perry are liberals or RINOs. To infer that would be totally completely 100% wrong, because everyone knows that supporting a man who touted LaRaza and ACORN, signed off on hate crime legislation, raised taxes and increased the size of Texas government, stood by and did nothing during the last ten years as illegals bred more Texas anchor babies than the Census could ever imagine counting, subsidized illegals' tuition and gave them student aid on top of that, said Arizona's immigration law wasn't right for Texas and a border wall was ridiculous, even endorsed Rudy Giuliani and Michael Dukakis, heck, supporting a candidate like that, that's clearly the CONSERVATIVE thing to do. To be fair, even if supporting a man like that for the Presidency doesn't seem the conservative thing to do now, it absolutely will be later, because the infallible Rick Perry might promulgate another dogmatic reversal, like His 180 on secession, or eminent domain, or gay marriage, or illegal immigration...it is all part of the holy "conservative" mystery that is Rick Perry, and all should support Him or face His wrath (or the wrath of His proselytes).

So I must ask you, Mr. LomanBill, what are you THINKING posting such anti-Perry heresy!?!?! You ought to be bowing down, asking forgiveness, and basking in his divine radiance like all the rest of us blessed followers of "His" Texas Miracle. Pardon the brevity of this post, but I gotta wrap it up to return to my devotional meditation.

OMMMMMMMMMM RICKY PERRY OMMMMMMM RICKY PERRY OMMMMM

Q: To clarify, so you support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants?
A: I do because I understand why people would want to be in America. To seek the safety and prosperity, the opportunities, the health that is here. It is so important that yes, people follow the rules so that people can be treated equally and fairly in this country.

Sarah Palin, who was wrong when she said that. I hope McCain's influence over her has not damaged her permanently.

This leads to 10s of millions of new leftist voters, and leftist control of all 3 branches of government forever. Is that what you want? Is that what Perry wants? It's what Obama and his gang want.

Does it change your answer if I say that I quite agree with those views and the immigration policies they imply?

LOL! You are doing a hell of a job convincing conservatives to get on the Perry bandwagon.

Oh smoothsailing, that tongue in cheek post you referenced was just so perfectly presented and so funny!

I actually had to read it a couple of times before I realized it was making a point. I have to admit it is getting harder and harder for me around here to figure out what is sarcasm and what is idiocy these days!

That was a good one though! LOL

Transplanted Texan, 4 year lurker, enthusiastic reader of Free Republic , and brand new "accounted" Freeper here.

I understand many people's reservations about Rick Perry. I share many of those same reservations. I am especially concerned about his lax attitude towards illegal aliens. But, I am more hopeful with the composition of the new Texas legislature, we will see a movement towards greater border security.

With that said, I voted for Rick Perry in the last 3 elections down here in Texas. The decision to do so was made all the easier by the awful candidates that opposed him. While, I differ with Governor Perry on some of the positions he has taken (these have been discussed ad nauseam here and on other conservative websites), I am generally happy with his performance as Governor considering the political and demographic realities that exist in Texas. In particular, he has kept the Texas economic engine machine going and has placed limits on property tax increases. He's also a very strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment (although, I would like to see the open carry option legalized). Recently, he signed the voter ID law which will, hopefully, reduce election fraud.

Am I completely satisfied with all Governor Perry's political positions? -- No. Would Sarah Palin more accurately represent my political inclinations? -- Probably. Heck, even President Reagan disappointed me from time to time.

Anyhow, considering the current crop of Republican candidates, Ricky Perry is the only one who comes anywhere close to my political beliefs and may have broad enough appeal to win in the general election (about 70-80% there, at least in rhetoric :-)).

On the 20-30% disagreement, we conservatives will have to pressure our representatives to do the right thing, a potential President Perry included. That's exactly what the Tea Party movement has been doing. This election is too important to let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Voltaire/ Obama is so bad, I would gladly vote for Mickey Mouse, Daffy Duck, or Forrest Gump if that was the only choice I was presented. I know that my endorsement of Governor Perry is luke-warm, but that's about as good as it gets sometimes.

Me? Nah, those are the words - verbatim - of then-Governor of Alaska Sarah Palin, from 2008. Here's some more of the interview for ya:

Q: Governor, let me ask you about immigration. How many undocumented immigrants are there in Alaska?

A: I don't know, I don't know. That's a good question.

Q: As governor, how do you deal with them? Do you think they all should be deported?

A: There is no way that in the US we would roundup every illegal immigrant -there are about 12 million of the illegal immigrants- not only economically is that just an impossibility but that's not a humane way anyway to deal with the issue that we face with illegal immigration.

Q: Do you then favor an amnesty for the 12 or 13 million undocumented immigrants?

A: No, I do not. I do not. Not total amnesty. You know, people have got to follow the rules. They've got to follow the bar, and we have got to make sure that there is equal opportunity and those who are here legally should be first in line for services being provided and those opportunities that this great country provides.

I love that last bit so much, I'm gonna run it by you again:

I guess Sarah Palin can kiss her support from conservatives goodbye, eh? She's obviously nothing more than just another effing RINO as far as you all are concerned.

What? You mean you're still gonna vote for Palin, even though she's nothing more than a rotten, stinking leftist criminal who wants to molly coddle illegal immigrants?

Like I've said before, the faint aroma of hypocrisy is becoming well-nigh undeniable on this issue (amongst others).

Thanks for the compliment!

With respect to Perry’s conservativism, neither is Sarah Palin.

That's what I said in my other reply to you in post 164. Are you a computer? You seem to have a canned response no matter what I say. Here is what I wrote:

"Sarah Palin, who was wrong when she said that. I hope McCain's influence over her has not damaged her permanently. No, I never said I was for Palin. In fact I still have serious doubts about her positions on immigration. I doubt she will run this time, but if she did and shared your zeal for amnesty, I would vote for someone else in the primary.

But the point is, you are for a "path to citizenship" for illegal aliens, and you are a very strong Perry supporter. That is not going to win many friends for him here, if FR member believe you represent Perry on this issue. You could try other sites that are more sympathetic to amnesty.

One day, tomorrow or 15 years from now, we're going to take 5 to 10 million Mexicans and they're going to have one thing in mind -- cross the border, go into Dallas, go into Houston, go into New Mexico, go into San Diego, and each one has embedded in his mind the idea of killing 10 Americans."

Yes, I know, Palin 2008. I was familiar with that interview before you joined FR.

The problem is you are suggesting that Perry agrees with that position ("a path to citizenship") and that will not be too popular here. You seem to be for amnesty, and many will assume, since you are a major Perry fan, that in fact he does agree with you.

I am going to do you a favor. In 2006 he wrote that he did NOT support it. LINK: Along with millions of Americans, I think it is wrong to reward those who broke our laws with citizenship ahead of those who have followed the law and are waiting to enter this country legally. And like millions of Americans I do not support amnesty.

After reading that, do you still like Perry?

I don't even like the idea of guest worker programs for illegals, especially with painful unemployment here, but if Perry is sincere about no citizenship for illegals, he is better than Obama and Romney.

I don't care how long you've been here: Perry spends too much time on his hair, and that is one indication of a very shallow and vain man who cannot be trusted with power.

The "he smells a little *too* good" indicator.

Cheers!
