Oh smoothsailing, that tongue in cheek post you referenced was just so perfectly presented and so funny!
I actually had to read it a couple of times before I realized it was making a point. I have to admit it is getting harder and harder for me around here to figure out what is sarcasm and what is idiocy these days!
That was a good one though! LOL

(If Rick Santorum kisses Romney while charging after Perry, I want my nice words about him back.)

Transplanted Texan, 4 year lurker, enthusiastic reader of Free Republic , and brand new "accounted" Freeper here.
I understand many people's reservations about Rick Perry. I share many of those same reservations. I am especially concerned about his lax attitude towards illegal aliens. But, I am more hopeful with the composition of the new Texas legislature, we will see a movement towards greater border security.
With that said, I voted for Rick Perry in the last 3 elections down here in Texas. The decision to do so was made all the easier by the awful candidates that opposed him. While, I differ with Governor Perry on some of the positions he has taken (these have been discussed ad nauseam here and on other conservative websites), I am generally happy with his performance as Governor considering the political and demographic realities that exist in Texas. In particular, he has kept the Texas economic engine machine going and has placed limits on property tax increases. He's also a very strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment (although, I would like to see the open carry option legalized). Recently, he signed the voter ID law which will, hopefully, reduce election fraud.
Am I completely satisfied with all Governor Perry's political positions? -- No. Would Sarah Palin more accurately represent my political inclinations? -- Probably. Heck, even President Reagan disappointed me from time to time.
Anyhow, considering the current crop of Republican candidates, Ricky Perry is the only one who comes anywhere close to my political beliefs and may have broad enough appeal to win in the general election (about 70-80% there, at least in rhetoric :-)).
On the 20-30% disagreement, we conservatives will have to pressure our representatives to do the right thing, a potential President Perry included. That's exactly what the Tea Party movement has been doing. This election is too important to let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Voltaire/ Obama is so bad, I would gladly vote for Mickey Mouse, Daffy Duck, or Forrest Gump if that was the only choice I was presented. I know that my endorsement of Governor Perry is luke-warm, but that's about as good as it gets sometimes.
