In hurricane Irene bull's eye, coastal North Carolina braces

North Carolina declared a state of emergency Thursday, opening access to federal assets to help government agencies respond to the disaster.
To help with a potentially disastrous aftermath, the government has stationed mountains of supplies, including water and generators, at Fort Bragg, one of the country's largest military installations. In North Carolina, an emergency declaration also means concealed weapons carry permits are invalid for the duration another grim reminder of the potential of a storm to cause civil unrest.

There might be civil unrest? All the more reason to NOT make it a crime to have a means of self defense.
Does anyone really believe that those that took the time to get a permit to carry concealed are going to be the ones looting the local WalMart?
We just saw the Midwest destroyed without looting and civil unrest. Katrina is a poor benchmark for the way people react to disaster.
The storm is now coming to where I live. If my house is flooded and FEMA doesn’t instantly respond, I’m going to publicly declare that Obama doesn’t like white people.
models show this storm weakening...i hope that holds
will damage some coastal southern but by the time it gets past VA outer islands it will be a TS
again...I hope
never seen the media go so crazy
Big deal. Eric Holder's DOJ will just declare liking people was never intended for whites in the first place.
Uh, guess you didn’t read. I’m against the NC law and for CCW.
I was only pointing out to another poster that there was cause to believe they might have civil unrest. In which case, there would be more need for CCW, not less, and therefore it should not be suspended.
A bad storm would make a really good "dry run" for gauging response to something catastrophic in the north east, wouldn't it?
No carry period in NC during a declared emergency.
Only on your own property.
If you own a beach house and are driving down to check on it and throw a shot gun in the trunk? You could be arrested if you’re stopped by the wrong cop.
I see the same thing..and hope it is true.
I think the media was all set to do a “hurricane show” all week and will now have to reprogram. :)
Proof libs are reading comprehension disabled!
When a government “gives” you your rights, they can take them away.
I won’t lie. At one time in my youthful life, I would have said...”I spit in your eye Mr. or Mrs. Hurricane. I’m workin’on a tan.”
In my more advanced years, I would probably be fighting over plywood at the local Home Depot and worried about skin cancer.
Darn, I hate being a grown up.
Governor Christie isn’t wrong. Why put rescuers at risk?
Governor is his correct title, but the buffoons on the weather channel are calling him Mayor. I have NO issue with him the Governor, telling the idiots on the beach to get off ..... I got fed up with the stupids on the weather channel referring to him as the Mayor.
I had no idea they were doing that.
How weird is that, lol.
Typical liberal methodology, diminish the opposition. One time maybe an accident but over and over and over no longer a mistake.
Very likely the truth.
Didn’t the Weather Channel recently change hands to a bunch of libs?
It wouldn’t slow me down.
Yes. The powers that be have turned the 'weather channel' into 'Saturday nite live' for the weather gods. I can't stand the Al and Stephanie sitcom every morning. Egos on parade preaching the algore heresies of 'man-made climate change'.
Well here's something for all you bleeding hearts to think about:
IF TROUBLE IS SECONDS AWAY; THE POLICE ARE MINUTES AWAY. Do the math.
Or in case of natural disaster they are hours or days away. According to your squishy feel-good beliefs all should be disarmed and left to the will of looters, thugs, burglars, rapists, and worse? Of course those crimes have never happened in mass quantities. Oh, wait, Katrina comes to mind.
Is there something in your liberal/progressive brain pan that warps your natural self-preservation instincts? Really? I really don't understand why you don't want to defend yourself. Are you so wrapped up in your silly Mother Earth ideology or just too plain chicken-shit to defend yourselves?
That said, and knowing how you hate guns, I think if you want to be consistent, you should have a sign on your lawn or door saying,
"This Is A Gun Free Zone".
I'm there for you. I'll actually contribute to your signage.
"NO GUNS! NOT NOW! NOT EVER!
NO GUNS HERE, FOREVER!
Actually, my favorite is:
THIS IS A WEAPONIZED NON-VICTIM ZONE;
TRY NEXT DOOR!
