Hi from CT, in New England!
Have gotten early this morning my batteries and also clean a number of jugs to hold water.
"THIS IS NOT LONDON...
LOOTERS WILL BE SHOT!"
I am in Louisburg, NC. Generators are all fueled up, have had their oil changed, and I have a stockpile of gasoline. My cord for the water pump is out and ready to connect :)
I’ve got some pasta, rice, pasta sauce, turkey burgers, and cans of chili.
It’s already getting very windy here.

Evacuations are underway for high flood risk areas. Mass transit cancellations, schedule changes and road/bridge closures are occurring throughout the storm warning areas. Nice thread! High & dry here in WI, but I have east-coast friends & family, so Prayers Up for you all.
If you’re all looking for a website w/great interactive graphics, try this one:
Full tank of gas in the car. Car parked on side of house, away from trees.
Windows taped, sleeping accomodations in basement.
Canned food, powdered milk, some water, some mre’s in case effects of hurricane go for more than a week. (Public water will hopefully not give out.)
Fingers on both hands crossed, hoping that Ms. Irene’s hormones go back to normal.
(Am I missing something?)
Might be parking car in large parking lot in case local street is blocked by trees.
...got all the stuff off my balcony
stocked up on batteries,water,coffee...tomorrow get some gas in the car (fill it) I’m freezing ice packs to put in a cooler if things go dark tomorrow night...*smiles*...other than that.....hunker down
rolling papers,beer......
Metrowest Boston — went to the store and bought a bunch of stuff that didn’t need refrigeration or cooking (I have an electric stove). Now I find out that by the time it gets here, Irene will be a tropical storm. So I’m thinking that it’e less likely I’ll be without power for an extended period.
Problem now is what do I do with all that beef jerky I bought that I won’t be needing? I don’t even like beef jerkey.
In Richmond, VA, bought some extra mantles for the gas lanterns. Have lots of rice and canned stuff. Probably not more than a thousand rounds of ammo, unless you count .22’s. A couple 20 lb. jugs of propane so we can boil water and whatnot. Need to park the vehicles in the field next door in case a tree or two comes down.
No other preparation for the over-hyped tropical storm.
I am so worried about all of you. My prayers are up for you all in the path of this monster. Please know we all care about you and are hoping for the best. God bless.
I’m tossing my meager supply of frozen and refrigerated food into a bag, packing my laptop and some clothes, and heading to my cousin’s in the far NW suburbs of Philly. He has a generator and a pool. If he has juice, I’ll work remotely from his place Monday. If not, day off. I can guarantee power will be out for a stretch where I live with all the old trees in the neighborhood.
Stocked a weeks worth of water and non perishable food (well we keep much more food than that anyways so really didn’t do anything for food)
Filled three cars with fuel, one five gallon fuel take also.
Two full propane tanks for gas grill
Withdrew $1000 in cash from the bank
Checked the functionality of the 12.5KW back up generator
Procured a new LED flashlight
Filled oil lamps
Insured I have adequate adult beverages
Lined bottom front of garage door with bags of mulch
Prepared a ready bag with essentials (meds, tools, etc)
Stocked my elderly parents with the same
Sitting back waiting for the blow by
Hell yes, hunkered down in Hampstead, NC just north of Wilmington. Rain and wind, nothing to write a novel about yet.
