FOX News reporting that Raleigh announced the closure of NC Hwy 12 (the outer banks highway) and US 64 — leads to the OBX at Manteo and Nags Head.

I don’t have a link, but this is kindofa “duh” thing... surprised it took this long.

I actually did, thanks.

WAVY TV10 is reporting the Coast Guard is attempting a rescue - it appears there are 2 people out in the water on a sailboat about 400 feet off the beach at Ocean View, VA

I'm watching FNC this morning. Shepard Smith cracked me up a moment ago. He was describing how subways and vehicles would be at a standstill for the storm. LOL!

"New Yorkers will be stuck. Then Mayor Bloomberg will come on and tell us all how we should act."

Like him or not, Shep has pegged Bloomberg's authoritarian rule.

Yikes.

I absolutely agree. And to add to that the idiots out on the beach watching - and I include the TV crews in that second group.

Wave heights at Duck (north of Kitty Hawk). Last night... 5 feet. Now? 19.4 feet.
Hatteras wind gusts - holding in the mid 50-kt range (~60-65mph).
Cape Lookout: pressure coming up (28.25"). Wind coming back up at 38 kts... Epic graph of the changes here.

Heard Wilmington got a lot of rain - mostly escaped the high winds. Doubt they had any real issues.

Very unusual. Irene won't pick up the westerlies, thus the storm won't kick into high forward speed until deep into New England.

On my way to work, they said the eye will be over Jones Beach, on the Nassau/Suffolk border (which is where I am).

I don’t think that’s good, lol.
