You can assume anything you wish. We all know what happens when you assume.

To repeat--I'll type more slowly this time--this thread is for storm reports. Take your armchair hindsight opinions to any number of appropriate threads. There are plenty of them.

I’m still in my pj’s and bathrobe, went outside to look for damage and a neighbor across the street had 2 trees down in their front yard!

Apparently, the trees belong to the town so Lord knows when they’ll “be by” to clean up the mess. Their driveway is blocked so I offered to help them at least remove that, but they declined.

I’ll go back over and help anyway. Met another neighbor (who’s dogs got out a few times and the black lab I was able to recover and bring back home, which is how we know each other) was out and about as well.

Although I am only a tenant in this neighborhood, I still try, like the good old days, to be friendly with my neighbors.

Been lurking on thread since yesterday. Out of harm's way but family members have property in the coastal path.

Clyde260: Enjoyed learning about your quaint location. I noticed you haven't reported since yesterday and looked you up to see how you and City Island made out.

In the process, I found this recent "great American rant" of yours and post it here in the grassroots spirit of this much-appreciated and critical NautiNurse thread and in the certainty that most Freepers on this thread will appreciate and identify with clyde's expression of the American spirit that made us who we are:
~~~~~~~~~
OK, I just gotta.
I grew up on an island. In the summer your Mom would kick you out of the house early, and you were armed with bathing suit, flip flops, and a towel. Off we marched, down the beach, and we stayed there ALL day (lunch was an ice cream from the truck that came around, and 10 cents did the trick). There were no life guards, no parents, no baby sitters... There was no sun screen, life jackets, drownings or lawsuits.
Winter was different and there were rules! When Mom said you had to go out and play, but said you couldn't go down the beach , you knew:
a) There was ICE!
b) Everyone would be there!
c) Put on your best boots (no galoshes)
And we would travel and play on the ice. No one froze, fell in, and there were no drownings or lawsuits. We weren’t stupid, just kids allowed to be kids, and use our own brains and instincts.
We played ball at the school yard, army, cowboys and indians in back yards and empty lots. We used toy guns, tents, cardboard boxes, and snow. We roller skated (had to have a skate key). We made go-carts, forts, and tree houses, and we ice skated. All with no parents, chaperone's, baby sitters, insurance, safety restrictions... And when we broke a bone or needed stitches, no one sued or was branded neglectful. And not one of us grew up to be a mass murderer. Hmmmm...
I was born and raised where I still live: Da Bronx - New York, and I love it still.
10 Bizarrely inappropriate children's products that somehow hit the shelves
clyde260: Please let us know how you fared through Hurricane Irene.
They basically admitted that the news is censored.
Translation: It’s saturday night, there’s a hurricane going on and no spokesman to be found
Better to say nothing and pass the buck ... than to say the wrong thing and get yelled at/demoted/fired the next morning.
Checking in from SE Pennsylvania. All is well at our end. We had about 18 hours of rain, measuring 7.5 inches. The creek rose, but less than with Hurricane Floyd. We have a lot of limbs down, but so far no trees. Wind gusts are still considerable, so I’m a bit wary about trees in their muddy soil and will certainly put off any stick pick up in the yard until things settle down. We lost power during the night for a couple of minutes, so we need to re-set some clocks, but weren’t inconvenienced. All in all, it could have been much worse. We’re off to check on some friends . . .
The proof is in the pudding....say all you like...an overblown media event
Foisted on us because the newsdeciders thought wrongly they were themselves in the path of a catastrophe
It was a farfetched projection early on which is precisely why a number of forecasters disagreed
but don’t let me stop you
NautiNurse said “...this thread is for storm reports...”
Long before the storm actually struck land, people were posting about it - so her assertion is, well, it’s false.
Go ahead and post what you’ve got to say. NautiNurse may have started this thread - but she doesn’t own it. She’s a cyberized version of Seinfeld’s “Soup Nazi”.
Anyone know what this means? Were houses floating down the street? From Fox New web site:
“In the Broad Channel section of Queens, department rescue workers were riding in boats to search bungalows that were floating down the street to make sure no one was inside.”
You’re a nice neighbor. I just heard from my neighbor who is moving out today that heavy rains are coming at 4 p.m. so I will keep hunkered down for the rest of the day.
