Approximately 65 million people are likely to be directly impacted by Hurricane Irene as the storm takes aim at the densely populated Eastern Seaboard. Evacuations are underway for high flood risk areas.
Mass transit cancellations, schedule changes and road/bridge closures are occurring throughout the storm warning areas. Please check with local news and Emergency Management Operations to determine the recommendations for your immediate area.

To be honest, I’ve done more listening than watching - it’s been on in the other room all day and I would look occasionally.
Holey guacamoley!!!!!!!!!
My daughter is spending the night back home after HOBO evacuation of ground level apts. . . Wallace is close to her and she said it’s in a lower lying area.
I heard that.
Hopefully it was a small tornado. I saw one form at treetop level above me one year, and I think the same one (or cousin) took out a single family house in Ewing NJ a few minutes later. Three people were in the house, fortunately — Divine Providence — iirc, they were all going upstairs to bed and the central stairwell and chimney was all that survived. The house walls and roof literally blew outwards, and they were left unhurt on the stairs under the stars.
We were in Jackson, Tennessee in the spring of 2010, the weekend when Nashville was flooded.
We refer to that as the weekend Jackson was flooded lol
Seems to be ok so far. Funny you should mention it, my other trouble spot is the Bilco door. Seems to be coming in through the side wall. Another project for another time ( As Cubs fans say, there’s always next year).
Fox News reports a tornado watch for NYC. Also now 2 million people without power.
When we lived in MN for a couple of years, we used to go outside briefly if we heard a tornado siren. Being from NYS we’d never seen one. But when the storm warnings came at night, I cowered like a blithering idiot; simply scared to death of what I could not see.

I still think JR should publish the Katrina threads as a book.
The green line indicates its rising toward 3 above normal astronomical levels.
Astronomical low tide is approaching, and then thatll be rising as daylight approaches, and at the same time that onshore winds will be increasing as the center of Irene approaches.
This will be something to monitor closely.
Good .. I’m sure you’re relieved she’s out of there.
God bless and protect you all .. this is going to
be a long, miserable night for millions of suffering,
worried souls.
What a fantastic idea! They definitely should be preserved and shared.
I was being "polite".
People who post about things they know little to nothing whatsoever about deserve far worse than what I wrote to you. Uncorrected, others, who might not know Bloomie's political history, just might believe that bumptious twaddle you posted, had I not corrected you and posted the facts.
As far as "nasty"...........just about everyone on this thread is on edge, as we have been/are/are waiting to be whacked by Irene. Some posters have "interjected" ( your word for what you did ! ) themselves and their off the wall assumptions and/or theories; none helpful in the least.
the true story must be recorded.
Night.
I just chatted with my niece in Manassas power is on there.
Time to knock off for the evening. If someone wants to monitor and post interesting updates, here are links:

I am presently located in a spot where I will only get a little wind and rain from the outermost bands (fortunately).
For all those in the path of the storm, may you be “lifted up on eagle’s wings”.
“the true story must be recorded.”
And it definitely was on those Katrina threads. It would also be a fantastic way to raise money for FR.
