Approximately 65 million people are likely to be directly impacted by Hurricane Irene as the storm takes aim at the densely populated Eastern Seaboard. Evacuations are underway for high flood risk areas.
Mass transit cancellations, schedule changes and road/bridge closures are occurring throughout the storm warning areas. Please check with local news and Emergency Management Operations to determine the recommendations for your immediate area.

The 76MPH reported @ Williamsburg, VA is at the airport. Any word whether those winds are at the surface or aloft?
Never hurts to be polite, right?
Did anyone hear the older professor who was just on Fox? He was comparing Irene to a storm that hit NYC back in the late 1800’s. Said the wind speed didn’t matter.
He mentioned 4 other factors that people should be paying attention to, but was reading another weather forum, and missed part of it.
I have read that entire counties in NC are totally without power. To my mind, this loss of power is the worst of the potential possibilities. There are only so many power crews to go around, and if all the states lose electric, consider that 1/3 of the total US population lives in the affected areas.
It could get very ugly.
I did just that... WOW! WHAT the heck is that thing??
I don’t think that means Great friend you. :P
This over drama coverage can bite the DBM in the butt for the next storm if they overhype this one.Especially if and little or nothing happens. No one will pay attention to them next time which could be a huge problem.
Wow, Irene IS moving very slowly... I thought you'd be seeing "action" by now. Our local meteorologist keeps reminding us how a slow-moving hurricane/tropical storm is not a good thing.
Glad to know you're still with us. Here's hoping another tree doesn't plan a visit inside your house this time...
Beginning to look like it Joe.
My motto is, if you get a mandatory evacuation order, you do it, end of story. Voluntary, means you can wait and see for a while.
HI Fish, how near the eye will you be?
Miss Nauti, I haven’t properly thanked you for being the hostess with the mostess. So glad to be here. :)
Still, but have a really slooooooooooooooooooooooow connection.
So replying/posting is taking forever.
This one has a lot of folks scratching their heads. Large area of dry air entrapment on the south side.

I admit I had to look up Drums, PA on Google Maps... I've been to lots of places in PA, but didn't recognize that one. You're south of Wilkes-Barre?
I just had a glass of red wine myself. Needed to calm down a bit after listening to all the gloom and doom, especially from our local meteorologist on the radio (based in Hartford, CT).
Sounds like you guys are going to have front-row seats for this. Stay safe and best wishes! Give us updates if you can.
Donna was an odd one wasn’t it? It came across the middle Keys as a cat4, did enormous damage, then moved up the west coast of Florida and came in around the Tampa Bay area, then hit NC, or SC, can’t recall which, then moved up the Eastern Seaboard. Donna visited a lot of places in her weird journey.
Glad you’re still with us, Gabz! Hunker down and stay safe... :-)
I wouldn’t be too hard on MojitoJoe he’s a guy that has more than paid his dues many a time.
Ithink it is called, Lets Kill Hitler.I'm planning on watching it hopefully I won't lose the electric.
I'm also off coffee for the rest of the night.
