Stu Ostro: Spectacular radar image of Irene as its center moves back offshore. Such a large storm with, on this image, such a tiny little rain-free center. (The actual eye, or what's left of it, is probably larger than that little dot.)

Was born and raised here, and there’s no place like home! Can’t imagine anywhere else. Bring it on and I’ll give you the grand tour. All 1 1/2 miles of it.

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel water level is rising fast; 8.29 feet (normal tide is 3.6 feet). It’s worse than Isabel.

This one crcks me up:

twc_hurricane: RT @wavy_weather: The Chincoteague Causeway, on Route 175 in Accomack County, is closed due to the storm surge. #Irene [via Twitter] Saturday August 27, 2011 7:21

7:21 on Saturday. LOL!!! It was closed long before 7:21. For all intents and purposes it was closed at noon, with few exceptions maybe for evacuees still leaving and first responders getting back on.

Reporting live from NYC...it’s raining harder now, streets are quiet except for an odd person out walking the dog. Shep is showing pics of the city, Grand Central, etc. which is all a ghost town except for European tourists. No matter the outcome of the storm, we are still faced with the transit problem of Monday and millions of people who have no way of getting to work.

Let me tell you something, and I'm not going to argue with you about it because I know that I'm right....

No need to read further. That is the signature of a mind immune to evidence and reasoning.

A word to the wise: you'd do well to limit your conspiracy nattering on this thread, if you care about your posting privileges.

I saw that the Emergency Mngr in Chincoteague reported a tornado at 1:30 - trees down minor property damage. Can't find anything else out about it.

Hope you guys remain safe.

You miss the point. The poster claimed the NHC was lying about the barometric pressure. It was demonstrated that they were not. Wind speed has nothing to do with it.
